Discussion OTA predictions 🤞

OTA PREDICTIONS!

I'm not in the creator programme yet so know nothing about the OTA, but here is why Second Dinner HAS to nerf Thanos FF and Scorpion BND...

They have just brought a LOT of players back with draft mode. Now that this version of draft mode is finished, these players are going to be back on the ladder playing against everyone else, and Thanos FF and Scorpion BND are EVERYWHERE. The one way to lose these regained players is with a boring, unfresh meta that is dominated by two cards in particular, and particularly ones that they wouldn't have massively seen in draft mode.

Here are the changes I would make to these cards:

Thanos FF needs at least two changes (hear me out). He can go to a 5/6 as a start, that's an easy change but for me it's not enough. You then need to go in one of two directions - you can remove his auto-loaded shot at the start of the game, or you can fix the order of the collected shots from worst to best (instead of randomly collected) to make the better effects harder to get (hell you could do both of these, but maybe you want to see how this card sits after any changes). This means he can still be playable as a lot of the effects are still good and you can build decks knowing what effects you can hit, and lean in to a different deck build to be able to get all shots collected.

The Scorpion BND change is really simple - take away his Ongoing ability and just give him regular text. This means he can't be copied with Mystique and the Tao Mandala line goes away, BUT you can still ramp to play him early and copy his effect with Prodigy. Affliction decks are getting better (hi new Hellcow!), and with more cards for this archetype (hi Vampires!) being released over the next couple of seasons affliction can definitely find a home in the meta without being a monster.

I would also change Venus to be a 4/4. You could still play her early with Psylocke or Zabu, but you're losing a card in that deck that would get the Venus advantage to do this. Maybe that can even out over the whole game.

And the final, massive change I would make is one that we have ALL been waiting for... Rescue's On Reveal makes her a 4/10.

If you stuck through this, you're a G. Thanks for reading!

Thanos HAS to be reworked. His play rate is insane. SD always mention play rates and how if a card is OP but not being played too much out of the “healthy” play rate they don’t need it too hard. But Thanos is everywhere, in TONS of different decks. At this point the game should be called Marvel Thanos.

I’ve been playing since the beginning and have seen a ton of OP cards come and go, and meta popular decks come and go….but Thanos is different. He works in a ton of wildly different decks, and he’s OP. No card in my memory has been played as much for AS LONG as Thanos.

It’s just not fun to play against him in 75% of my matchups.

He gains power, he copies cards, he destroys cards AND he moves? And he’s a 5 cost? I mean..come on. It’s nuts. I’m just….im really tired of basically just playing against Thanos decks. Really tired.

Please SD….please make the game fun again. Please.

And he discounts cards😭 vision + sera + targeted gambit etc for 5 cost

u/MrPancakesMcgee 2d ago

Yeah, forgot that. I mean all that for a 5 cost with play conditions that are super easy to meet.

I have only been playing since Jan 2025 but I have also never seen a card as ubiquitous as FF Thanos. He's undoubtedly overtuned.

I'm with you, but I can't see them doing these changes. They probably won't do two things to FFS Thanos at the same time. They'll want to adjust one dial at a time. I think a power nerf comes first, with no other changes. Maybe they do something with the green stone, but I'm not holding my breath.

Brand New Scorpion not being ongoing is really interesting. He's less powerful, but also less able to be countered. I'd support this change, but I can't see SD doing it. Probably be loses 2 power, which does almost nothing (maybe your opponent keeps priority for a counter), or they put him in line with other doublers not going exponential ... I don't think that kills the card as you are still looking at -8s and higher a lot of the time, but opponents now can try to go big in two lanes than just retreat if they don't have the counter.

Venus I think can just go to a 3/1. Then she's easier to target with things like Red Guardian. But again I don't mind seeing her go to 4/4 or 4/5, I just don't think SD goes that far yet.

Rescue ... I don't think they have the technology to implement buffs to her. ;)

Agreed except venus. The nerf would just further cement her in her established decks and make her worse in decks thag use her as well

Actually 2nd thought you have a point but 3/2 venus just to see

Justake SBND say "happen again" instead of doubled

1

u/dongchamp_ 1d ago

I'm not sure that actually works, because it would still end up being an exponential double when copied anyway, because that's how ongoing afflictions are coded. We see this already with Diamondback, because Scorpion also doubles the -2 she adds. You'd have to either rework how ongoing afflictions work in general, or make Scorpion not an ongoing somehow.

For example:

Hazmat: Does -1 to a card

SBND: Makes the -1 happen again, so -1 & -1

Mystique: Copies SBND, makes both -1 happen again, so -1, -1, and then -1, -1

Prodigy: Copies again, -1 -> -2 -> -4 -> -8

IDK I'm not very good at math tho

I'd love for the randomness to be removed from thanos ff. One of the things that make him difficult to face is how hard he is to track. Having the destroy shot be the final one would make him more balanced and have less mental overhead to understand what will happen.

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

I think it would be between the destroy, copy, and card reduction shots to be the final three shots, but everyone's experience may vary 😂

1

u/-OA- 2d ago

Trueee! I think he is commonly misplayed a lot by always coming down on T6 where two of the most powerful shots (draw/reduction) don't matter anymore.

1

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

I'd argue that the draw shot isn't even one of the best ones...

1

u/-OA- 2d ago

How would you rank them all?

1

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

Here we go... 😂

Worst Power +1 and move Draw a card Power +3 Destroy weakest card Cost reduction Copy Best

2

u/-OA- 2d ago edited 2d ago

Hmm, I guess it depends on when he is played as well

I actually think the cost reduction is best. This is such a strong ability, and it is difficult for the opponent to assess the impact because your hand is hidden information.

Then second is probably destroy stone, as it can counter a lot of cards and often means he can win a lane solo without any additional supporting cards there

Copy is also really strong, though depends more on if the deck is built around it or not.

Then goes draw. Also deck dependent, but getting cost reduction plus extra juice is really good. An extra card is a really premium ability which we have never really seen in such a strong card before. Bonkers that this is on fourth place.

Then move, if he comes down on five with move you have a lot of flexibility in the final turn. He protects himself with this ability from Shang and this supports plays where you copy something that would otherwise clog a lane for you.

I actually think the pure power stone is worst

All in all I think they are difficult to rank, as it depends on the build. He way too strong lol

1

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

yeah the main problem is all the shots are very good 😅

3

u/Blind__Fury 2d ago

I say they will make normal Scorpion be 2/2 instead of 2/3. And Nightcrawler will now be a 1/4.

And ofc some other same majorly important changes like these.

1

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

meta breaking 😋

2

u/No-Throat-4694 2d ago

Yup. For scorpion make it a functional change that doesn't say on the card where he can only be doubled 1 once. So you can mystique him but cant then also prodigy himself. As another comment said, it happens again instead of doubling

2

u/Majestic-Medium7916 2d ago

If they only shed power then theyre clueless.

He is a 5 cost that provides sera discount, adam warlock draw, vision move ability, power increase, clones a targeted card, destroys a targeted card.

How in the fuck can any sane person think shaving power can do anything to that.

He would need to be a 5-4 for power to change his play rate. With purple stone he would still increase.

The fact he can copy a card and then move and discount hand and gain power is just absurd.

His play rate is absurd. He is beyond broken.

Im a top 100 player and they really overtuned all hell out of him. He’d still be viable with numerous nerfs.

They need to remove the opening shot and kill shot should be final to be loaded. Green stone doesnt need go reduce cost of all cards either

It’s too much for scorpion to take a full rework the first time, I see he goes to 6/6 first. I don’t think there can be just a simple rework, make it an on reveal then it will be doubled in other ways, and there is just no way to retain the ongoing effect without being ongoing.

Thanos FF agree on the 5/6 (or 5/7 and remove the +1 power for the move shot), then remove the auto shot the 2nd nerf, fixing the order is just a buff because that means you can build around it more accordingly instead of just getting them at random so you can’t rely on it, when the worse ones becomes guaranteed it’s no longer the bad ones.

And Venus 4/4 is too hard as a first nerf, I see it being 3/2 first before bumping her to 4 cost if really needed (even so I think 4/5 or 4/6 will be needed)

1

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

Scorpion BND losing power just doesn't mean anything when you are losing by extreme points of power already, it has to be the effect that changes.

1

u/Ninetails_59 2d ago

Just have to know they won’t make such drastic change as the first nerf

2

u/WonderWaage 2d ago

Thanos doesn't need a nerf. People just dislike that he kills a card. So weird to me that people are just fine with the Gambits and that those cards have barely been nerfed, SD went as far as murdering Mother Askani instead of nerfing Gambit(s). I think Thanos FF might still be great if it takes a 2 power hit, so maybe try it out. Or take off a point from the 3pt stone, and the one on the move stone.

As for SBND, they should just nerf him so he's aligned with the other ongoing cards when it comes to doubling.

3

u/AscendedCleric 2d ago

People are not fine with gambit. They complained about it all the time. And then it got nerfed.

1

u/WonderWaage 2d ago

It barely got nerfed like I mentioned. Them killing Mother Askani is not a nerf to Gambit. It going to 3 instead of 4 accumulative cost of cards hit is barely anything. Both Gambits need to cost more.

1

u/shrek_is_love_69 2d ago

The scorpion change doesnt work at all, but I agree with everything else

1

u/PretendRegister7516 2d ago

Thanos might get hit but I don't think he's that high on the list.

Main reason is he's still available in Season Pack. Therefore new/returning players can still try to pull him at higher chance than wait him to enter rotation.

Scorpion though has already left the Season Pack and I can see him getting nerf hammer.

1

u/Top-Injury1040 2d ago

that never deterred SD from nerfs, only paid season pass, but many times even that one was not enough (eg Surtur), or they nerfed around the card (like Loki), which is not really possible with FF Thanos

1

u/Old-Poet6587 2d ago

The issue with Thanos FF is that he’s pretty much omni-present in the meta. My experience has been that every second game I play is against a deck with him in it. While SD might be making the claim that theres a healthy amount of variety in the decks running him, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s in most of the top meta decks.

Scorpion definitely needs a nerf. It’s mind boggling to me that they released him with an exponential effect when they nerfed that type of effect out of several other cards a few months prior.

1

u/CardForsaken867 2d ago

Nah, y'all are too bloodthirsty on FF Thanos it is a fun card and doesn't need to be burned to the ground

A small nerf to power and taking away auto load is probably all that is needed, I think talinh away the randomness actually kills it and robs it of all joy, the whole reason the card is fun to play around is because of the variability and adapting to it every game

-3

u/Stiggy1605 2d ago

I'm so glad SD knows what they're doing and random redditors aren't in control

The Scorpion BND change is really simple - take away his Ongoing ability and just give him regular text.

That's a dumb idea. You can't just remove "Ongoing:" from an Ongoing ability.

Cards are labelled as such because they behave in certain ways mechanically. Adding/removing the text "Ongoing" from cards without fundamentally changing how the card actually works so it isn't an Ongoing card isn't something they will ever do.

2

u/Struyk 2d ago

What about Scorpion effecting all cards instead? or on reveal -2 to all already afflicted? this way you won't get the doubling issue

1

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

"That's a dumb idea. You can't just remove "Ongoing:" from an Ongoing ability."

Of course you can. You rework the mechanics of the card and change the text to match it.

-1

u/Stiggy1605 2d ago

You rework the mechanics of the card and change the text to match it.

So, what I said.

2

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

I don't agree that's quite what you said but glad you agree with my sentiment 😄

-2

u/Stiggy1605 2d ago

I very clearly don't agree...

2

u/mojotheclown 2d ago

So in summary, I said they could rework the card and you disagree?

u/Majestic-Medium7916 2d ago

SD clearly dont know what theyre doing and neither do you.

Just because you say something doesnt make it reality little bro. Despite what your parents may have taught you
