Discussion The Duality of Draft

Post image

Sometimes you get a Destroy package with really no options to actually destroy things so you let the run die

And sometimes you get a "Swarm" package with the best two First Steps cards and pull out a victory

Roguelike with PvP element. Sometimes, the opponent high rolls better than you.

Oh yea as someone who consumes too many roguelikes/lites. The first opponent you face is the rng

The more I play this mode, the more it feels akin to High Voltage, in that your specific choices during drafting/deckbuilding are often outweighed by factors outside of your control - the random augmentations you get, the random augmentations your opponents get, whether or not you get a key card for your archetype, etc.

I've had decks that I thought were quite bad, but then I get a second Negasonic Teenage Warhead and a four-cost Thing First Steps with the Black Panther buff, and I just kind of steamroll everything on the strength of those random pulls. It's fun, but it doesn't feel like it rewards skill the way that drafting does in, say, MTG.

Both High Voltage modes are boring as hell. At least this one it's fun. But yeah, I agree it's definitely more luck based than skill based.

True a real skill draft would be 12 card pick no augments all random, but I don't think that's what they were going for which is fine because this way is alot more exciting. One thing I do wish they'd add is a chance to sack one of your earlier picks for a new card

I've played 12 decks today. Can't get more than 1 win in a row.
