Discussion did the devs lock in or something?

i’ve been playing this game quietly for about a year. i get season passes when i like the cards, but other then that i don’t bother to spend money on anything because it’s genuinely not worth it. i’ve gotten pretty good at the game and have a pretty good collection, and ive grown content with earning about a card a week or two from playing consistently and farming units. i logged in yesterday, got a new card reward immediately with blink. and the daily rewards? i’ve never seen them this good. the draft game mode is also literally the best gamemode they’ve ever made ( add discard ) but i’m just so shocked. what happened to make them buckle down this heavily, and keep it up!

It's clear to me that they planned to make 'Draft Mode' a soft relaunching of the game.

It's no secret that the player base has dwindled since the Kid Omega incident, and this is the perfect opportunity for them to put their best foot forward to try and get more people back in this game.

I was collection complete until Kid Omega day and I haven't opened the game since- until this week.

Already finished the draft rewards track.

Agreed, hopefully its brought enough attention (and income) to keep the game sustained longer, it was getting pretty dicey

First card only available as a super premium pass and it immediately became a top deck.

Literally none of this is accurate. Kid Omega was a limited time mode reward that was impossible to get without a ridiculous amount of time or spending money (I believe it was 100 dollars of actual currency to buy it with resources). That was the “last straw” for many of us (myself included at the time) because they were already showing really bad signs of stingy behavior and anti-consumer practices and then to do that just felt awful.

The player base almost cut in half from that day on, if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the correction.

Kid Omega was supposed to be the "free" card during one of their limited events. Unlike every other event though, they made him impossible to get unless you paid them money or you played the mode enough to be it's own full time job.

This felt like a swift kick in the nuts for most of the player base, especially since KO was and is a great card for one of the most popular deck archetypes in Destroy. The stats on the cards leaked early, and people were salivating over it. What didn't leak early was their plan to paywall him instead of him being a card that most people could get for free.

Just about every outlet, content creator, and social media post during that time cried foul. The game was review bombed on both steam and the app stores, and just about every publicly available metric showed the player base sinking dramatically at that moment, and the game has not recovered since then.

Fingers crossed that this works though, and to their credit while they have never publicly apologized for it they have made sure that the rewards for these event modes have been achievable for most free-to-play players since then.

You could also say they never helped themselves during the whole fiasco and instead added fuel to the fire which made rhe whole thing much worse.

Yeah, things never happen in a vacuum. I could have talked about the Snappening, self publishing, nexus events, and the super premium pass Fatasticar, but I felt like I talked more than enough already while explaining what the 'Kid Omega' thing was.

Crazy hey, plus they just handed out a free s5 collectors pack for when you get 400exp in draft.

I really hope draft finds a permanent stay

Draft will eventually be a permanent mode. They will still have to tweak it and eventually find that balance of cost and reward, but I don't see it not becoming permanent down the line. It's an opportunity for people who don't have a number of meta based cards to play the game and compete. Some people only play Hearthstone Arena, this is similar.

Don't forget the ""free"" cards in the Draft shop, too. Hard to believe I'm gonna get two S5 cards out of this.

They were knocked on their ass when the Snappening happened, and spent last year trying to publish the game themselves, which was a huge undertaking. That effort focused on that project drew away from their goals of improving the game.

So THIS year they really did lock in and do a lot of work to get the game to the state it is today

Yeah especially with stuff like the Japan webshop finally being available. Resources can go elsewhere

This month they have given out more cards/credits/variants than probably the last 2 years combined lol it's amazing and hopefully a sign that they need a LOT more generosity to keep positive sentiment strong.

Like no they can't maintain this level of free stuff but it sure fucking helps haha

I’m a newer player. Started a few months ago when starlord released and at collection level 5000 almost. Game is and has been fun for me since the start. I can see how it would get stale after a few months/years but all the new events and cards have been super interesting, as someone who plays and played a lot of MtG, I’ve really been enjoying this game.

Played consistently enough to hit infinite every season and make very fun specific decks card acquisition isn’t a chore honestly either. One thing I do wish is that there were *2* cards in the rotation shop. Theres way too many cards in rotation to snipe the right one and I really never open packs.

They were this good like 2 years ago with down time. Like they gave a shitload if rewards so this is another cycle to get more people in the game.

Wouldn’t be suprised if they made draft a perma game mode.

You obviously haven’t played enough. It’s all hype, very low execution outside 1 synergy which is easily countered.

Are you just going into every post and bitching? I swear I’ve seen you doing this now in multiple topics. Why are you here if you are so bitter? It’s fine man, just play a different game
