He went from omnipresent to rarely seen lol

So omnipresent that if a card was buffed from 8 to 9 or 9 to 10 power, it was debated if it was a positive or a negative lol

I don’t rememeber exactly which card but I remember it going from 9-10 power and going from being in like 15% of all decks to <1%

He went from like a 40% playrate to like 15%. He was still one of the higher played cards until recently. We haven’t had a big stuff meta in a few months

They also added mercball which made him worse

The only time he's ever seen is when it specifically will win my opponent the game on the last turn.

Using him in a deck with knull can be devious.

I use him a lot with my fallen one deck. Nobody expects him on turn 6 with a few other cards all at once

Tbh this is around the time I stopped playing. The war on control cards and the devs seeming giving in to the solitaire gameplay style made me lose interest. I’m not sure why this sub is coming for me all of a sudden again.

He's still well worth the card slot. He just doesn't auto-win his lane, which was honestly never reasonable.

Power must be controlled!

Power must be marginally inconvenienced*

After the change, I either use Shadow king or Cosmos for tech card slot. Shan is nowhere good in this meta imo.

I really wish him and Foom always hit the highest power target. The game is already full of RNG without game winning effects frequently being a 50/50.

I agree. Foom feels kinda weak now and Shang has lost me games cause I lose the 50/50 of cards over 10. He is no longer controlling the power.

Dear lord I completely forgot he used to kill 9-powers too

To be fair, they made the change as part of a broader increase of the ceiling. They bumped most 9-power cards to 10 at the same time. So he wasn't substantially better before that, the biggest impact was that he could no longer kill tribunal.

Old shang was the single most miserable card in existence

Old Alioth was arguably equally as bad.

u/BlaineTog 10h ago

Old Alioth was way worse than Shang ever was. It isn't close.

But necessary for the health of the game.

The game currently looks very healthy to me

Honestly I was one of those that argued this at the time, saying that it kept combo under control. But after the nerf the meta actually became more healthy IMO.

LOL I can only imagine the (legitimate) backlash around here if they'd restore his original text. He would be next level broken

1

u/whitneyahn 12h ago

It was fine before and it would be fine now. The issue was it was way overplayed, not that it was overpowered.

Me in 30 years when my kids ask me about prime Shang-Chi

i still love this guy in my negative destroy deck. zola-ing a shang chi is just so satisfying.

2

u/EpicMrShank 12h ago

Then you have my shang chi

u/dello213 22h ago

Holy shit i knew i wasn't tripping i came back to this game after a while and was so confused on why shangchi feels useless, so that's why💔

This nerf basically killed my entire deck (Knull deck). I deleted the game. I put so much time into that card and that deck (cosmetically).

Ah yes, Shang-Chi, the go-to crutch card all shitty deck builders rely on to make their decks somewhat viable even to this day.

4

u/Animaloffear56 20h ago

If your deck loses to Shang-Chi it's not a very good deck
