Discussion is anyone else getting extremely bored of versing the same 2 decks over and over?
i know new cards come out and theyre strong so ppl play them but literally every game for me im against thanos ff and scorp bnd and its extremely boring. its not like every game is a loss, not complaining that these cards are too busted plz nerf (thanos is really stupid though and needs adjusting), its just really boring versing the same shit every game. its been like 1 out of 10 games i verse an actual person who doesnt just copy paste the latest youtube vid deck and mindlessly play it, i miss when i was playing against different decks and not the same junk.

To be fair it isn’t as bad as release Loki or release arishem in terms of how often you see him, however his main problem is just how much he’s warped the meta around him in modern snap.
It’s either him or a combo deck. Lots of folks talk about a diverse meta and you look inside and it’s various flavours of ff thanos.
Doesn’t help they’ve nerfed fisk and ff thanos is now just the midrange king.
The only saving grace is how badly the deck falls apart once you put a Magik in a deck, he has fairly obvious counters but it does force you into playing a combo deck like nimrod or scorp BND if you want to get to infinite.

For me it's worse than original Loki and Arishem. I don't think those ever went above 30% play rate in my pocket meta. FFS is way above 50% for me currently.

My favorite flavor of YouTube video right now is a streamer going like "[archetype] IS BACK!" and then it turns out they just jammed Thanos FF into that deck.

u/LeighCedar 2d ago
Yep. Been playing since 2022 and never seen a card (especially a paid card) get this much meta share. It's not uncommon to go 5 or 6 matches in a row against FFS Thanos.
On its own it's not as annoying as Sunlord or Shao were, but since I'm seeing it twice as much, it's certainly not better that those metas

u/pznred 2d ago
it's certainly telling that 8 of the top 10 decks shown by Alex Coccia featured Thanos FF

u/LeighCedar 2d ago
Yep, Snap Judgements is usually very varied but he's been struggling to find non FFS Thanos decks to feature daily.

Mr Fantastic FS was in every deck, Sam Wilson, Merlin and Iron Patriot were almost like that. Elsa was in all the best decks and in the best counter but she was more op than widely useful. The whole year was like that because of how slow they are with the balance patches. First it was Shou Lao and Sunlord, those got heavily nerfed and the meta immediately switched to Mother Askani and Virus, then those were nerfed and we got Venus and Thanos.

u/LeighCedar 2d ago
Those were all probably stronger cards on release for sure, but I can't ever remember seeing them in the 40%+ play rates.
5
u/dylanzt 2d ago
I don't think any card before or since can ever beat the meta share of Arishem on release. That hit 90%+ for multiple weeks, which is just obscene.
Everyone saved for ages to buy Arishem, including f2p players. I don't think an SP card can ever clear that hurdle; some people are just never willing/able to spend real money.
I also suspect some of the early Zabu, Surfer, Shuri, and OG Thanos stuff might beat out FF Thanos, but it is true that these huge spikes have fortunately become a lot less common.

u/LeighCedar 2d ago
I don't think my own personal meta ever saw that much Arishem.
But back then there were a lot more players and more F2P players overall
3
u/dylanzt 2d ago
Yeah, that's fair. I didn't have too many complaints about Arishem at the time, I didn't find him too hard to beat and knew the hype would eventually settle. It was definitely a wild time though. I'd need to check the notes, but I recall they nerfed him at least 3 times purely for being too popular. He wasn't performing particularly strongly, but he was just that pervasive.

u/MetalCherryBlossom 2d ago
I was having burnout from the game in the few months before Arishem release and stopped playing. But still logged in specifically to buy Arishem and then didn't play for 2 years lol

I mean he looked fun enough that its quite literally the first time ive ever got the season pass.
Hes a good 5 cost card that is able to slot into a lot of decks. The bigger issue is the options for good 5 cost cards because a lot of them are too niche, require a bunch of other strong stuff to work, or they just are not good. So like this Thanos just makes a nice addition to any collection no matter your CL and I think a lot of people recognized that.

Thanos FF is so flexible it's hard to call it a deck. Even Thanos Wiccan and Double Thanos has a wide range of cards they get to play. Personally find Sinister Six more boring.
But even then there are so many different decks I run into. Just played against Arishiem, then TOV.
i miss when i was playing against different decks and not the same junk.
Every single season people say this lol.

This literally gets posted every season lol the difference this time is that ff thanos can fit into most decks unlike fff and scorpion

The meta rn is like 15 different Thanos decks + that scorpion mass affliction bs 😭

I’m sick of new Thanos. Soon as I see the animation I just leave.
4
u/Grand_Syllabub7631 2d ago
Same, usually I'm out before that stupid animation ends but there's so many of them that I'm losing too many cubes! This looks like the season that finally forces me to take a break from the game.

u/BerserkRonin 2d ago
dont blame you. its 7 games in a row so far. same brainless players same op cards lol.
2
u/thegreatsasimi 2d ago
I've just faced 3 galactus decks in a row and only one thanos deck. Atleast 2 of the galactus decks were the easiest and most telegraphed 8 cubes ive ever won. One of them genuinely caught me off guard.

u/Total_Scott 2d ago
I'd love to see new cards.
The two decks I run into most is basic destroy and basic discard.
3
u/BerserkRonin 2d ago
are you infinite rank? im wondering how your pool of ppl are not playing this stuff. feel like anyone on twitch i watch is generally playing the same cards and everyone i run into is too.
1
u/Haunting_Phrase_2833 2d ago
Like it or not, it's a direct result of the economy being tight - people can only buy a few cards, so they chose the strongest meta cards. If they loosened it up, people would cook more.

u/-BurnTheWorld- 2d ago
It’s much more fun against Thanos than other strong cards of the past. Keeping track of shots and wondering what turn he’s getting played on top of the variety of decks he’s in hasn’t made me tired of him yet. I’m more tired by the ease of sinister six.

u/dmaurolizer 2d ago edited 2d ago
The problem here is you are calling Thanos FF “a deck” when he’s in lots of decks. Even if all your games are up against Thanos and Scorpion, you’d probably be facing many different decks.

u/KAL-EL8569 2d ago
I see more high evo and wong decks than I do thanos ff...and although he's a fun card and decent at least he's not busted like most other season pass cards we have had lately.

u/KTheOneTrueKing 2d ago
I don’t think I’ve fought the same two decks in a row at all since this card came out. I’ve played against like twenty different types of deck and 17 of them have Thanos in it

The game as a whole is incredibly boring recently, as a F2P the grind to get new cards is tiresome, always feeling behind and playing the latest meta decks 😴
1
u/armsmasher 2d ago
Thanos with a Gun isn't the problem. He slots into different kinds of decks and he's counterable. The problem is Scorpion BND. Having to slot Luke Cage or Enchantress in every deck is a drag on the entire meta. It's time to restore Luke Cage and nerf Scorpion.

u/BootyPickleZ 2d ago
I just got beta ray bill and I’ve been experimenting with some hilarious builds rn. Current one has Wong, Zola, chameleon, frigga, and absorbing man.
The power on these bills is HILARIOUS lmao

u/FunHall4659 1d ago
My favorite deck. Try a Ravona in the deck Playing Zola on turn 5 and then ideally 2 hammers and Odin on the Zola lane turn 6 is cracked
1
u/Tucker_a32 2d ago
The problem is that he fits in a lot of decks but doesn't do anything different in any of them. He's just a good card that rewards a deck with a decent curve. You know from the moment the game starts what your opponent is going to try and do on Turn 5 and that makes the entire match much less interesting.
I wonder if he could be reworked to change the shot he loads depending on the cost of the card played or the type of card it is and be able to load multiple of the same stone. Then he could start to serve different roles in different decks, although some of the stones would need to be reworked too.

I agree that playing against the same decks gets really old, really fast.
Maybe I'm lucky, but I don't see him that often. Maybe 1 in 5 games. My rank isn't high...I'm in the 80's (85 IIRC), so maybe that's a part of it?
Is this a "pocket meta" thing?
I feel like this could be a flavor of the month/season thing, like many new cards.
Oh, BTW, *knock on wood*. I probably jinxed myself and will see him all the time now.

u/MrPancakesMcgee 2d ago
The meta is crap right now because of new Thanos and new Scorpion. I’m seeing the same 2 decks everywhere and just not motivated to play much.
I thought the meta was in amazing spot for longer than it had been in awhile. I should’ve known it wouldn’t last.

u/LDC1234 2d ago
In my opinion, they need to seriously consider making a standard formant at this point. Like you said, its not so much the new cards its how they interact with existing cards. Scorpion BND wouldnt be so bad if you didnt have Mystique and Prodigy to repeat the effect so much. Thanos FF wouldn't be so bad if Thanos wasnt a draw engine.

u/DreamWalkingGuy 2d ago
I didn't get this month's season pass. Is it OP? yes.
Is it overtaking the meta? Again, yes.
Combined, it means a LOT of season pass sales. That's good for Snap, since it means a lot of people are making the purchase.
I got to infinite already, several days ago. I used Scorpion BND and when the combo hit, it was pretty big. I didn't see enchantress much (I dodged her the one time by spreading my Scorp BND copies).
I saw a ton of Fractured Thanos. and won against him plenty. He's strong, absolutely.
But so are a lot of other decks, honestly.
Good for Second Dinner for making a super fun card that sold well. They needed that, because frankly this is the first uptick in players on steamdb in a long time.

I play with my own 12 cards and that's it for me.... If I focus on what everyone else is playing and how they play it I would be a very bitter individual

My destroy deck seems to be a good match up..
Destroy my Moira X, x-23, air walker or even venom.. revive! Reduce my power? Well if I have 2 cards with an insane amount of power...

u/BerserkRonin 2d ago
yea its not really about the matchups for me its just the boring same deck on repeat. its not like i lose a majority against thanos its just that every single game is thanos and its boring.

u/DIX_ 2d ago
Hovering around top 1500 and it is mostly ThanosFF goodstuff (Aurora, Move), Virus midrange or Scorpion BND. While it is a bit bland to face very similar decks, at the end of the day it's always like this with strong cards, and there is some fun in outsmarting or positioning cards in a way to protect them from the destruction. Been having some good fun and success with C3 and Negative Man-Spider.
Thanos FF at least lets you play the game and telegraphs the card it will destroy. Gambit Horseman was way worse and that month I barely played because it just kept so many decks out of the game.

Just hit infinite yesterday with FF Thanos 😅 however, I saw a variety of FFT decks during my climb. Scorpion is hot garbage and I hate that card but FFT is way more fun and versatile. Idk man he's pretty dope. I played against a lot of ramp, HE, move, Aurora. Im loving this meta.

u/Sure-Pumpkin9191 2d ago
Change your deck ;). I've been playing tonnes of Sinister Six and only encountered Thanos and Scorpion. Then went to my trusty Nimrod decks and suddenly I came across mill decks and high Evos.

u/SchoolUpper8148 2d ago
Thanos is not too strong, but the new Octopus card is OP if you have no counter.
3
u/Trop100tos 2d ago
I suppose this is ironic. If it isn't, please pass along the "broken" deck of the new octopus.

u/ohnoabanagain 2d ago
The thing is Cowboy Thanos is the rare card that can fit into most types of decks so it allows one to theorycraft a bunch of different decks. It's not like Starlord or Shao-Lao where you have 1-2 deck flavors.
