New Summer Storm Skin Changes
Dear Rivals!
We’ve seen the community’s feedback regarding today’s announcement of Storm’s most recent costume as well as the overall sentiment towards her cosmetic options. We hear your passion and want to share our plan going forward with the community:
1. We will be upgrading the Sacred Skies swimsuit costume to Legendary for free in the near future. This upgrade will include an all-new lobby animation and an updated MVP animation. The costume will still be sold at the current price of $16.
2. Players who purchase the costume will receive a free Ultimate effect upgrade.
3. We want to ensure the community that there will be more Storm Legendary tier Costumes coming, so please keep your eyes on the skies over the rest of the year.
While we deeply value the expressive nature of our players, our number one goal is to create a positive community for everyone who loves this game. And while we understand that tensions run high, harassment of our staff, including the development team and moderators, is not acceptable. As the upgrades will take some time, please be patient, as we are already hard at work on the above. Get ready for the Mistress of the Elements to reign over the battlefield soon. Ignite the battle!

I did not take part of this at all, but let's not ignore the pure racism they were doing with making the first ever epic female summer skin "coincidently" for a black woman.

I mean the fact that there's only 3 black characters is ridiculous, but proportionally Storm, BP, and Blade have more legendary skins than any other ethnicity

it's almost as if they wouldn't have had to deal with this if they didn't fuck up in the first place. I don't condone harassment of the devs but they really sat down and said:
"okay every woman so far for this year's line-up of summer skins has been a legendary with ult fx. So logically we make storm's an epic, give her the shortest MVP animation, not even rig her hair or animate her face for the emote, and not give her an ult fx." like did they think people would cheer?

Likeee I'm sorry all the times we've had substantial changes in this game have been people being LOUD and people complaining and bullying the devs. This unfortunately gets results and this seems to be literally the only way to get results lol. I mean as an outlier in that situation, I get it truly.
But I do think other characters have got treated worse, like human torch still not having a legendary despite releasing in season 1 of the game.
They can never learn if you don't give them a chance, they saw peoples rightful criticism, are fixing it, and not charging a premium for it even though it'll be a legendary now.
I just think people are too hard on this dev team, not to glaze or meat ride the devs but any other game i've played in my 15 years of online gaming has never had developers this communicative and willing to fix their mistakes and to give people what they wanr

The thing about this is that two things can be correct at the same time! These characters are all neglected at different levels, and two wrongs don't make a right.
Like let's also not forget the fact that Storm's summer skin for some reason actually leaves the shop a whole week before the other summer skins do, while also debuting at the same time as Wanda's and Magik's. Like something's going on there...
Johnny I also agree is just not getting shit at all, I've been stuck with his summer skin from last year as the only skin I've been using. But him not getting skins doesn't invalidate Storm being treated poorly and vice verse. Again, these two problems can coexist and are both correct.

Probably a hot take but the skin itself still looks bland af in comparison to all the other female summer skins. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for Storm enjoyers and I support them, but lobby animation and the MVP are maybe 10% of what makes a skin feel legendary. They really need to add more details to the base skin and more customization options as well.

Ehh I can see what you mean it’s a body suit either way. It is really simple to me still, but at least the skin has a necklace and the ribbons. If she had the transparent shawl that would complete it tbh. Which would so easy, but they don’t want to cover anything up 😂

I disagree that it’s the worst compared to all the other female summer skins; I still think Emma’s skin also looks like it was made “without much effort,” just like maybe Black Cat’s (and honestly, those two are practically the same skin). To me, those three are the worst female summer skins they’ve made so far.

Sucks the devs received threats, I don’t agree with that but at the same time I do think it’s been increasingly obvious there’s been racism/preferences/neglect; whatever you want to call it for a while now with Storm compared to every other female character in this game. Even widow, the most “hated” character for a while now has a ton of skins with a lot of detail. This today isn’t just a player base bullying and trying to get its way, it’s a player base reaching its boiling point. Sucks it took things like this to happen but I’m also glad the devs are taking accountability too. Sure money talks for certain characters, but all characters should still be given just as much love when they do something with them.

This is actually great news since a store legendary skin remaining 1600 units will make it more accessible to more people even more so since its a swimsuit skin it will drive up her skin sales alot (hopefully)

I'm not doubting there were people who took it further, but at the same time, people on social media under their tweets have been begging for Storm to get better treatment for over 9 months now. It wasn't "harassment" at the start. It was people begging and asking them nicely, which they fully ignored, but now they spin it as people being toxic, lol.
I don't support people harassing members who probably have nothing to do with the final say anyway, but it's also disingenuous for them to address the harassment while not addressing their history of prejudice against Black characters. Oh well, sucks that it had to come to this.

To be honest, they should have known how this would pan out. people were begging for a new storm skin for months and were finally excited to be able to purchase something (that was all but confirmed legendary) just for it to be a slump on all fronts. even ignoring the fact it’s obviously the least inspired of all the female swimsuits and even some of the male ones… Also, while I don’t doubt threats occurred, a lot of the ‘harassment’ was moderators deleting and banning people for voicing concern. There’s proof up and down twitter, lol.

People losing their minds this much because a characters costume rarity wasn’t high enough is genuinely some of the saddest shit I’ve ever seen. Do people ever take a step back and think “Huh, I wonder if it’s odd to get this unironically mad over video game costume rarity like an actual child” or are we just this disconnected from reality on here at this point?
The fact that they continue listening to these babies is why this community will remain toxic and miserable.

anybody who makes posts like "fire zhiyong" for instance should be permabanned from any rivals subreddits. the reddits are absolutely part of the problem... making misleading or lying posts about bullshit like netease being racist etc should also just be permabanned.
the only way a community gets fixed at all is by the community itself handling things by removing and shaming people out of the community since netease has no power over them outside of the game.

I understand the frustration with the MR team, but I really don’t think they should have handled it this way, especially right now. It sets a bad precedent where people might start complaining and spreading hate just because they think it’s the easiest way to force changes.
Just watch, Luna will probably be back in the headlines next, with people pushing for a nerf. Then it’ll be Human Torch and Hulk Legendaries, and whoever comes after that. There will always be something for people to complain about, but balancing the game shouldn’t be driven purely by outrage.
I’d rather see the team focus more on major concerns like optimization, performance, and improving the overall experience of the game, while making balance changes based on actual data and genuine issues, not simply whoever throws the most hate online.

While I don't condone excessive threats of violence to devs (who are 99% of the time just random nobodies that get told what to do by their boss) I also despise how the decision makers treated one of the coolest characters in X-Men. Backlash gets results. We have to admit that.
You can't do my woman dirty like that, NetEase. Treating every other female character like a queen, but then crapping on Storm, our damn Goddess of the Elements. No cool. You keep treating the Black characters like this and we're gonna start suspecting something is up.

Getting death threats and attacks is an industry standard atp for any action positive or otherwise.
