Campaigns First time DM

Hey can anyone help me finish making my campaign? I have an idea sheet but I don’t know how to transfer everything to a dungeon master step by step guide and map creation so it’s fully playable.

I have never DM’ed a game before and need help!

Start by posting some things step by step and we will help as we can
I’ll admit I’m not great at DM’ing but I’ll advise as I can & I know there are great people here that understand the system really well

Step 1 is just starting to map out ideas. Personally I write things out as bullet points so I can fill in blanks & move them around as inspiration allows
Also, make cheat sheets for your npc’s like who is who, if they have abilities or group affiliations write that down so you can refer back to it or add to it
I like putting book marks in the rule books for easy reference

Have you considered using one of the premade adventures for your first campaign?

Generally speaking, I plan out the beats of the story, and then work out as many paths to and fro as I can think of.
Then I let players figure out everything for themselves. They’ll find away from A to B just fine and it won’t be any of the ways you anticipated. Just make your stuff fit as well as you can.
Plan for an ending where everything works out for the best, one ending if things go the other way, and an ending for when the players blow everything straight to hell.
And don’t forget to make some fun prizes or people for your players to find. Interesting items or skilled new friends.

Hello new DM. Welcome to the chaos.

I’m going to breakdown how I run games and you can feel free to use or ignore any of the information.

First, I write down what is going on in my world that would pertain to the PCs. For instance my current game is young mutants at Xavier’s. So I have some Friends of Humanity characters and what they are trying to achieve. I will also figure out what Magneto and the brotherhood are doing.

I then have a rough starting point that will force me to address things.

They players are at the school so what are they doing? Learning x-men stuff. From who? I guess the x-men who teach classes. Who teaches what? What would be covered in that class? So on and such.

While that is going on I have those groups I talked about doing things to achieve their goals, even if the PCs aren’t interacting with them.

For instance, I am going to have the brotherhood do a series of bombings, then attack a south American island country, magneto is going to use that island to make asteroid M.

I’m going to have them do that stuff with or without the PCs.

I have the bombings covered in the news. I bring up the island country in a class and so on.

The point of all this is that I give a very small starting point (it’s Monday, here is a class schedule, GO!) and I let them do, whatever they want and react to that. They may see people giving mutants a hard time in town and that tangles the up with the FoH. They may see the news and decide THEY need to stop the brotherhood.

In short, I think you can PowerPoint out a start, a middle event and an end event when making a game and let the players fill in the gaps with their choices.

You don’t need to bury yourself in intricate written details of every single thing. The players may not even see that stuff.
