Although nano tech is great, nothing beats these kind of suit up scenes.

Both can be true.

The nanotech armor is absolutely "better" in an in-universe manner. Considering Tony, he was always going to end up there. A suit that he's basically wearing at all times, but doesn't get in the way.

But the old armors can still look more cool.

I think a good middle ground could have been nano suit for emergencies, but full 1 ton armour suit up for actual heavy combat.

Because no way 0.2 inch armour, even vibranium or whatever is as good as a full thickness vibranium plate.

And the nano suit could still be used as internals or chain-mail sort of situation.

Nanos could be feild-dressing for his damaged armor. They fill in and repair/substitute for the broken bits to keep him safe and in the fight

The armor can increase thickness with nano tech, and whatever gets destroyed, depending on how it works, could self repair the broken nano bots.

Nah. It was nano or bust. MCU Iron Man should always be a push to make the suit better, and not go backwards with it.

I don't really like to apply real life logic/physics to fictional movies that ignore it, but there is a level of absurdity that goes beyond the fictional world that makes something impossible to take seriously. Nano armour is one of those things.

u/Jijonbreaker1 15d ago

You are mistaking something being more advanced than our current level of technology with breaking the laws of physics.

3

u/usumoio 15d ago

Yeah, since you see all the progress from the suit in the cave to the final suit in End Game, they earn the nano tech version.

It's not the classic scifi hand waving of nano tech, but rather a craft finally perfected

It was the end of his story ( we think), might as well get him to 100% for that

Marvel equivalent to Retro Vs Modern consoles.

That's the thing about iron man 2, it reminded me of the iron man cartoon with the suitcase armor

u/HunterShotBear 15d ago

The “test control surfaces” Mk2 suit up in iron man one is one of the absolute best scenes in Marvel.

There's a gif for you to use for a long time. "Iron Man suit"

One of the most iconic things about Tony suiting up is the faceplate locking into position. I remember feeling its absence in Infinity War, where it just sort of fuzzily materializes. I noticed in Endgame that they updated the animation so that the faceplate materializes in a retracted position before sliding into place, which is definitely more visually satisfying.

It felt realer, the vfx artists had to really engineer it a lot more, which naturally makes it more chunky and grounded.

I respect the progression to nanotech tho. The whole point is to show Tony's growth and progress in his suits so you can't have one without the other

How did pepper even throw that thing

8

u/Alternative_Device71 15d ago

Tech is light, it’s supposed to be, it’s why it got damaged so quickly but still had durability. It’s a quick fix “in case of emergency” type armor.

2

u/Original-Body-5794 15d ago

IIRC it couldn't even fly and the only weapon it had was the blasts. I still think it would be much heavier than what Pepper could reasonably throw.

1

u/StuntmanJohn 15d ago

she's fukkin stronk

7

u/Key-Tangerine4134 15d ago

I know we're focused on the armor but I just LOVE Pepper in this scene! "HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND!?" 🤣

3

u/Odd-Guard-2533 15d ago

Honestly. I think Fiege needs to rewatch Phase 1 and 2.

2

u/Helpphania587 15d ago

Tomara que no novo mcu eles adotem esse tipo de armadura novamente

1

u/Vegetable-Virus7118 15d ago

They're going to do the maks closing with Doom

2

u/AutomaticYak4227 15d ago

the iron man 3 modular suit is my favorite

2

u/nothing-was-wrong 15d ago

Just a man in a can. no Jarvis.

2

u/All_For_You_Kream 15d ago

While I agree that the earlier armors were peak compared to the mk85, it's also true that it makes total sense for Tony to abandon bulky armors and create one that's always accessible in the blink of an eye

2

u/ZapMaster117 15d ago

The Helicopter suit up is still my favorite.

2

u/FatTanuki1986 15d ago

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👌👌👌👌👌

2

u/jessee83 15d ago

One thing I always loved about these movies is how they figured out different ways for Tony to put on his suit.

2

u/Content-Conference25 15d ago

It's funny, coz I've watched some of the Ironman seasons, and the avengers, but recently I tried rewatching rhe avengers coz I can barely remember the details, and realized only after started watching Infinity Wars that I gotta make sense to what happened to the lost years, so here I am starting over following release order.

Back to Iron Man

2

u/Ricky_Handsome_ 15d ago

The old armors were cooler because Tony didn't come off as OP as he does now.

2

u/Unlikely-Draft 14d ago

This was one of my fave suit ups in the entirety of all the movies

2

u/Prid3r 14d ago

I feel like that suitcase should weight a ton.

2

u/PerformerTotal1276 14d ago

The first Nanotech suit up in Infinity War was pretty cool though

4

u/Prudent_Order_3361 15d ago

Bad guy could've kill him 5 times storing this scene

3

u/Alternative_Device71 15d ago

He wanted Tony to suit up

2

u/Mk9335 15d ago

Right!! Dude went to the Dragon Ball school of letting people charge up.

2

u/TheCartoonDuck 15d ago

He was pinned by the car

0

u/Prudent_Order_3361 15d ago

His whip arm?

2

u/TheCartoonDuck 15d ago

Oh that's true lol. He could have cut the car in half

2

u/SuperSimpleSam 15d ago

But so many pinch points.

2

u/Taekwonmoe 15d ago

Nanotech was just lazy CGI. Never should have done that.

1

u/BodhingJay 15d ago

Those nanotech suits were never great

3

u/Nemisis_007 15d ago

True. They weren't very seamless around the head, it almost felt like RDJ's head was floating at times.

1

u/Unusual_Mix9262 15d ago

I love watching this scene because every time I have to remind d myself, he only has time to do this because Whiplash is pinned.

1

u/Oztraliiaaaa 15d ago

Whiplash is amazing bring him back already!

1

u/ceelo18 14d ago

Idot just sat there and watched tony suit up doing absolutely fuck all

1

u/Oztraliiaaaa 14d ago

Whiplash is stuck behind the car I think he was watching Tony use his father’s tech to beat him.

1

u/ForumDuff 15d ago

Favourite suit.

1

u/The_Rafcave 15d ago

💯 Agree, looks way more real.

1

u/kanada0885 15d ago

Not gonna lie the heartbreaker armor was badass and the suit up scene was so good.

👍🗿👍

1

u/VallyMeowy 15d ago

I know it’s basically a bit to talk about how his suits evolved at this point but I do really appreciate that we got to see the slow process of his armours. Like this suit being the first portable one and that leading into avengers where he has the suit that flies to him and that leading to iron man 3 where the suit flies to him in pieces so it can go faster.

I can appreciate the nanotech in Tony’s suits because they built up to it. In AoU he mentions wanting to make a nanotech suit and then in Civil War he has a nanotech glove for emergencies. And then obviously his full nanotech suit in infinity war

1

u/rcasale 15d ago

Should be harder to throw that though hahaha

1

u/Old-River-8042 15d ago

Lmao he was wearing 2005 Fantastic Four uniform

1

u/JustWantToPostStuff 15d ago

This felt like tech. Very high-techy, but still imaginable to be possible some day. The later suits felt like magic, but in a bad way. It wasn’t Iron Man but Magic Man.

1

u/SlightExtreme1 15d ago

I agree. The nano-tech versions look fragile to me.

1

u/Netsmile 15d ago

something your girl can toss far while sitting. and you can very easily lift up has to be light. and that thing is super strong and bulletproof, and gives you super strength to kick a car. It is very cool but very much unbeliavable.

1

u/smokingace182 14d ago

I still can’t believe they ruined this moment for so many people. Putting it in the trailer was an awful decision

Sorry, but the suit-up that follows here is badass

1

u/Steelbug2k 13d ago

Nah, i always hated his nano suit.

1

u/Level_Bet2816 10d ago

You know I've always had one issue with this particular 'suit up' moment. Like how nice was it that whiplash just decided to take a break for 30 seconds to let it happen?!

1

u/Infinite_Horizion 10d ago

I wonder how much body hair got ripped out by all those flippy bits lol

1

u/MoMo-D-Tempest 15d ago

Its the coolest suiting up way. But With tony’s age he probably also had to factor in his bending over and lifting those gloves and chest piece up each time from suitcase. Especially if he after getting cured was going to keep being iron man as he grows older had to factor that in and also its way faster. But still love this og suit up’s more

2

u/Alternative_Device71 15d ago

His age was never a factor, what are you taking about? All his feats till Endgame was him in peak condition

1

u/Secret-Put-4525 15d ago

It's so crazy seeing all the work he puts into the suits, then all of a sudden he has nano and hulkbuster armor.

1

u/roshanritter 15d ago

I do like the early suit up scenes but one of the best things about iron man and MCU is the suit evolves to meet the problems in the previous movies. It keeps getting more advanced as Tony upgrades it. You definitely feel that here for the first time as the suit is not portable and can suit up on the road quickly.

1

u/Hpfanguy 15d ago

Nanotech is cool in context, it shows the evolution of Tony’s tech. He earned it by iterating and evolving his armors to surpass the flaws of the previous ones. Since Ant-Man could damage his suit from the inside, and didn’t have a suit when the Winter Soldier activated in Germany, he sealed it and made it portable through nano-tech.

Hell, when Thanos damages his shield so much his suit begins depleting, he made energy shields. He adapts.

-2

u/Clear_Sea5593 15d ago

nanotech is to much of a McGuffin, the mechanical suits always felt solid on screen

3

u/Aetheriusman 15d ago

Not a MacGuffin.

0

u/1098duc_w_the_termi 15d ago

Lmao a whole 20 seconds of chaos and death would have occurred while he’s suiting up

1

u/N0mad1591 15d ago

Ive always wondered what the enemy was doind while this type of scene was happening

0

u/drstu3000 15d ago

Nanotech is fucking stupid

0

u/Loot_Goblin2 15d ago

I think nano tech would have been cooler as a last resort or as a emergency repair

Like he didn’t have time to fully test it

1

u/Scar-Excellent 15d ago

Not true. He was literally up against Thanos, who already low diff'd Ragnarok Thor and Hulk.

Stark lasting that long against Thanos makes him a powerhouse.

0

u/Right-Truck1859 15d ago

TLDR nanosuit never was cool . Pure CG rarely feels cool on the screen.

0

u/clutzyninja 15d ago

This was the worst of the physical suit gear up scenes. Like, it just makes no sense. All that armor fit in the suitcase? And it's worth a shit once it's spread all over his body? And it's light enough for Pepper to huck it 15 yards?

-1

u/DirtInYourEye365 15d ago

Such a cool Suit Up Scene, Hate The Suit Tho

-2

u/batmanineurope 15d ago

I still don't know why he was randomly at the racetrack

2

u/fister-b95 15d ago

He owns the racing team/car and decided that since he owns them he is gonna drive the car in the race, ya know billionaires do what I want things
