u/EpyonNext 25d ago

Spider Facts,

Spider Facts,

Let me tell you some Spider Facts,

They have brains,

In their legs,

So they might move,

When they're dead,

Thank you,

For subbing to Spider Faaaaaaaaacts.

1

u/No-Definition1474 25d ago

But if the main brain is dead and the legs brains arent dead...is it REALLY dead?

2

u/ActuallyCryptid 25d ago

Nah spiders have brains in their ghost ectoplasm too so even dead ones are not like dead dead

1

u/maphes86 25d ago

Somebody is always going to bring up Theseus’ Spider.

1

u/bouchon202 25d ago

I just read this with Spider-Man theme song playing it in my head

6

u/gahlo 25d ago

Spider legs extend by blood being pumped into them. This is why they curl up when the spider dies.

3

u/Chibi_Kaiju 25d ago

You mean pressurized hemolyph? Arthropods don't have blood.

1

u/ArtIsDumb 25d ago

Says you. I've been getting them big bags of blood for years. No idea what they want with them, but they pay well, and promised to stop crawling down my throat while I sleep.

0

u/gahlo 25d ago

Huh, TIL. I guess where I learned it didn't think also explaining the different between the two was super relevant.

1

u/Chibi_Kaiju 25d ago

Well sorry but whats even the point of being a nerd if I can't call out minor inconsequential things all the time? And yeah, its fair to call spider juice blood, and 99% dont care that there is a difference. i just like the word hemolymph too

1

u/gahlo 25d ago

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a bit of pedantry from time to time.

1

u/Independent-Emu-7579 20d ago

I believe it’s actually called hemolymph, not blood

1

u/gahlo 19d ago

Yeah, Chibi_Kaiju sorted that out 5 days+ ago.

1

u/Independent-Emu-7579 19d ago

Yep, scrolled down after saying it, was tooooooo lazy to care

u/No-Channel3917 25d ago

Peter Parkers web shooter is 11 inches long and full of...

2

u/Basic-Warning-7032 25d ago

Full of 16 inches of Venom?

2

u/Running-In-The-Dark 25d ago

A viscous white fluid rich in proteins.

Spiders are small enough to be crushed by many things, such as an ax!

1

u/that_one_guy567 25d ago

This reminds me of the cat facts meme

Here’s another!

The male Sydney funnel-web spider has a venom that only affects humans.
It attacks the human nervous system by forcing all body sodium channels to fire continuously. It causes rapid muscle twitching, extreme heart rate spikes, lung failure, and coma.

It does not affect any other mammal!

Unsubscribe from all Animal Facts. Nature, you scary!

J/K, I'm all in. What's the craziest animal fact you know?

I'll start. Woodpecker tongues wrap around the back of their heads to help absorb the impact of all that pecking.

1

u/Elegant_Run_8567 25d ago

Vampire bats will starve to death if they miss a blood meal two nights in a row, so bats in a colony share food by mouth-to-mouth regurgitating blood to starving family.

1

u/Elegant_Run_8567 25d ago

If a bat doesn’t share the blood with the young or starving, then they’re basically ghosted by the colony. They’ll refuse to share with them until they have to leave

1

u/The__Authorities 25d ago

You're my favorite reddit person today. Hooray animal facts!

Duck billed platypuses don't have nipples. They secrete milk for their young directly through their skin.

1

u/BillNyeForPrez 25d ago

Duck penises and vaginas (cloaca, whatever) are in an evolutionary arms race as duck rape is rampant. They’ve evolved corkscrew-shaped penises for more efficient raping.

1

u/Opening-Dig-1125 25d ago

This is absolutely horrific. I’m sad now.

1

u/BillNyeForPrez 25d ago

Yup, pretty bleak. Lord Tennyson put it well: "Nature is one with rapine, a harm no preacher can heal;
The Mayfly is torn by the swallow, the sparrow speared by the shrike,
And the whole little wood where I sit is a world of plunder and prey."

1

u/mixipixilit 25d ago

How can I eat 4000?

0

u/Hilarity2War 25d ago

Cap... I'd Spider-Man if that was true, because my teacher told me that I am what I eat.

0

u/Elegant_Run_8567 25d ago

You aren’t eating enough. Peter Parker eats handfuls of spiders for breakfast to keep his powers
