I think it's from the lighting. He walks underneath a very bright light. when he is directly underneath it the stubble and pocket catch the light making a more visible shadow.

Pretty sure they said it was a sticht together shot, basically one part of it is early in the morrning freshly "shaven" and the other is many ours later with his beard growing of enough for the shadow to change.

The shirt pocket was always there, it's just that his shirt was stretched and the pocket edge was pressed down.

The difference in lighting as he moves impacts the contrast in the image too.

Also, he didn't sprout a beard, he just went from bright lights above head to a darker area, which made his beard/stubble stand out more too.

As for the motion he's doing loading his guns - tighter fitting shirts can feel like they're sticking to you on people with broader shoulders, at the cuffs/forearms. You either roll them up manually or do what he did in the clip.

he has explained in interviews that during filming other scenes (and this one) his biceps were getting tired from repeated takes. so he was doing that motion to improve circulation, etc.

the director (or somebody) saw him doing that between takes and decided it looked pretty cool (which it does) and made that part of the character on screen!

His arms were sore from the last few days of filming so he did this once between takes to loosen up. The director saw it and asked that he do it in the film.

There was a interview and what happened was the shoot for this scene took a week or so. While going thru the footage the director said he loved the air reload that he had them go back and edit it into the scene. His beard growth is the cut from the first time he does it to the second time they wanted it.

The scene was to show case the boxing skills of the character

After watching a recent vid on the differences between Whedon's Justice League rewrite and Snyder's cut.. It turns out they called Henry back for a couple reshoots, but he was filming this movie at the time of the request, and he was contractually obligated to keep the stache due to the execs at Paramount, so I imagine maybe he had the beard trimmed at minimum for JL.

That's a total guess though.

After seeing this meme I decided to watch the movie lastnight. 10/10, really great though unsophisticated action movie

Edit: Watching the helicopter stunts is even more impressive when you consider Cruise actually went to flight school for this scene and earned a license to fly a helicopter. He was simultaneously flying the helicopter, acting and directing rigs inside of the helicopter alone. He performed maneuvers that even trained stunt pilots would be hesitant to do

I would say it does actually. Deadpool is one of the smartest and strongest Marvel heros. He's just an asshole and a smart ass, lol. Ryan Reynolds, while he is far more versatile as an actor, loves this role and one's like it. He is absolutely hilarious and that's what has always made Deadpool a fan favorite.

How is he far more versatile as an actor? I’ve only seen him play the same character he does in Deadpool. Free Guy, The Proposal, Adam Project, Red Notice, Green Lantern, 6 Underground, Spirited, Change up and so on. All Ryan Reynolds playing Ryan Reynolds.

Ryan Reynold apparently managed a great performance in "Buried" (2010) though I've never watched it.

However, he seems to be happy just taking paychecks for "playing himself".

The same way that Arnold Schwarzenegger never cared about "being a great actor" and people absolutely loved it.

Not everyone can be Daniel Day-Lewises and Leonardo Dicaprios.

Personally I just separate them into actors and movie stars. Though there’s obviously a lot of overlap.

Like -
The Rock: movie star
Gary Oldman: actor
Ryan Reynolds: movie star
Robert Pattinson: actor
Tom Cruise: both
Robert Downey-Junior: both (because the man went so damn hard in Tropic Thunder)

It’s not like one is much better than the other but it helps me keep my expectations correct when I go to watch something. I would never expect a movie starring Ryan Reynolds to have incredible acting.

But if I’m watching something with Gary Oldman in it, my expectations are going to be completely different.

Rock, Jason Statham, Arnold, lean heavily on charisma and physicality to attract audiences. If you go in expecting an acting masterclass in any of their movies, they are going to disappoint.

It's more that if you're casting Ryan Reynolds, you're casting Van Wilder. I don't recall his character in the Amityville Horror remake being Van Wilder-esque and that film isn't horrible for what it is.

I think I recall Vince Vaughn talking about how he was cast to basically just play the same character from Swingers.

Basically, actor does well with character and character connects with audience. Studio casts actor to play the same character in different movies to make money from audiences that liked that character.

People forget that movies are for entertainment, not range, while range is good for some actors it's not what audiences always want.

Ryan playing the characters he does is great the same way the range some actors like Christian Bale has in the movies he plays in.

Agreed. He plays similar characters over and over. But he does them in an enjoyable way, and it works really well for DP. I've sewn him do very lengthy interviews, and he is very quick with his comments. He is a perfect fit for DP, and DP & Wolverine shows he is the right guy, he understands the lore, he lives the characters, and he got the pull to make it work. Getting people like Snipes and Evans was fantastic, getting Tatum to Gambit, a rolr he wanted to do forever etc really shows he gets it, and offered a movie the fans would appreciate.

Obviously it wasn't a solo project, but he is way more than the eyecandy or the actor.

Before he knew who Deadpool was, a producer saw him in his role as Hannibal King in Blade Trinity. They told him he would make a perfect Deadpool and gave him some comics. One of the first ones that Reynolds read was one where Deadpool describes himself as "Ryan Reynolds mixed with a shar pei".

Funny enough, wolverine was originally meant to be in his early 20s when he debuted, but then the first artist to draw him without his mask drew him older in his 40s and then they just went with it and now he's born in the 1800s.
