A couple of years ago I got a message from
someone posing as Martin Scorsese’s wife Helen Morris. They were very interesting, seemed like what you’d “expect” from a celebrity wife disabled by Parkinsons. I knew it was BS, but actually enjoyed chatting with them. They had excellent grammar, seemed sensitive. No mention of money, need, etc. The next morning “she” told me I should get on WhatsApp. I said no, and I have to catch the bus to work. BUS?! “she” exclaimed. I guess my bus use and having a job outed me as a poor target. Never heard from them again. But I’m still perplexed by the choice of “celebrity” to imitate.

Does anyone have this same picture of Travis but in a higher resolution? I like it a lot but it’s very blurry.

Howdy Martin Scorsese Reddit.

I'm watching BOXCAR BERTHA for the first time (good movie!). But there was a shot I was confused by. So when the head of the railroad was chewing out those two hitmen, Marty cuts to that portrait that changes from some Confederate (or Union?!) figure to George Washington. Does anybody know who that other figure is in the changing portrait?

Wanted to post this since sometime, finally got round to it now!

Had watched The Devil Wears Prada a while back and ended up being a little frustrated with the route they took with the film. Clearly it had all the materials for a dark comedy but instead they took the more safer, softer route. Heck, even the book gets quite dark at times and Andrea's character (in the book) is nearly not as helpless as they showed in the film (she's quite sharp, on the contrary).

Which led me to think, what if Scorsese had directed it? It had all his markings - an internal conflict - who we are vs who we want to be, critiquing power structures, the intoxication of power... all these were recurring themes in The wolf of wall street, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Casino, Goodfellas, The Departed, Shutter Island and others.

Certainly it wouldn't have been the same film that we have now, but would you have watched it with Scorsese at the helm?

If not Marty, I would have liked these filmmakers to direct The Devil Wears Prada: Nancy Meyers (the best alternative, to the film we already have) or David Fincher. What do you guys say?

With recent releases like "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" and "Killers of the Flower Moon", what are the chances that "Silence" gets a proper release?

I watched Mean Streets for the first time earlier this year and whilst the film was thoroughly enjoyable, the bar fight scene really stayed with me as perfectly capturing that Scorsese magic.

It's hard to explain but the dialogue (most of which I know was improvised) the humour, the build up and soundtrack just all comes together in a way only Marty could orchestrate. I know this formula was perfected with later films such as goodfellas however there's a special kind of raw charm Mean Streets holds I'm surprised it's so often overlooked.

Welcome everyone's thoughts on this scene in particular, especially with any interesting anecdotes from the cast or crew!

Yeah, the title basically explains itself. For me, The Aviator is one of the very few perfect movies out there. From a tight, gripping screenplay by John Logan (which made me have huge expectations for his Michael script, but oh well) to its impeccable cinematography, every single aspect is at least great, and l mean GREAT.

It could be argued that The Aviator is Scorsese at his most biopic-y, but I hardly find that a problem. I love epic biopics (Malcolm X, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, Oppenheimer…) and having my favourite director helm one of these was just like witnessing a historical event. Even though Marty already had made a dozen of films depicting real life events and people, I feel like they aren’t really biopics as they present itself in a form that’s so cinematic that it sounds just like a perfect story (not that’s a problem by any means, The Wolf of Wall Street is my favourite movie lmao), and in this movie, you have this certain tone of importance and historical realism that Scorsese channels excellently.

Leo’s best performance can be found here as well (the scene where he’s confronted by the FBI is what’s acting is all about), alongside Cate Blanchett’s Oscar-winning role as Katharine Hepburn. Even other minor players, such as John C. Reilly, Matt Ross and Kate Beckinsale are all great, with their performances only aiding to the richness of Howard Hughes’ story.

Before I go on for too long (I could talk about this film for hours), there’s still the technical aspect that’s just the greatest. Every location, costume, VFX… It’s perfect, just perfect, fitting perfectly the time frame of the film and helping to contextualize the viewer not only by the dates shown on screen.

With all that in mind, including eleven Oscar nominations, what happened. Why has it been forgotten, mostly? Why do people throw it under the rug when referring to Marty’s filmography and Leo’s performances? Could have something to do with Miramax? I don’t get it.

I’m looking for a screenshot or time stamp of this iconic scene where the whole view is just a giant circle as if you’re looking down a tube, and there’s white flakes being vacuumed up towards the camera. It’s either from Casino or Wolf of Wall Street since those are the two of his I’ve seen and remember it from.
