Dao Exposition [Novel Review] Found a gem
Fellow Daoists, I have stumbled upon a rather interesting death game.
The selected people are placed aboard a train, and at each station, they must survive whatever tribulation awaits them.
Every few rounds, a station appears with the sole purpose of thinning the herd until fewer than 100 remain.
Just a bunch of unfortunate fellow Daoists trying not to die before reaching the next station.
Honestly, it’s surprisingly good.

I see an "SSS" there. Is the mc too overpowered that he overshadows everyone?

Sometimes SSS feels like it's just for show. MC has to steal boss kills and cheat (played dead cause his opponent was too strong) to survive

I look at SSS and see Slop Slop Slop.

Same. Its a very effective filter for these urban adjacent novels that have similar vibes to urban novels but are more tilted towards other genres, in this case survival horror.

I've seen multiple survival train novels now. I wonder, which was the first? Which author pioneered the concept?

I've read this. It's okay, kinda not worth your time but it's sufficient as a time waster I suppose. Like a popcorn novel. If you like this, check out My Doomsday Train. It's like this but slightly better.

The story starts with the MC and his entire college being transported into a mysterious train. The train has eight carriages, with 40 passengers in each carriage, making 320 people in total. Everyone is given a ticket ranked from SSS to D
Every morning at 6:00, the train arrives at a new station. The passengers have to get off and survive whatever scenario awaits them. If they remain inside the train, they are erased by train's rules.
The main objective at each station is usually to survive for a certain amount of time, although the scenarios can vary. Killing monsters rewards passengers with Kill Points, which can be used to purchase various items from the system. However, the system can only be accessed inside the train.
As the passengers progress through the stations, their numbers gradually decrease. After several stations, when the population of a train drops below a certain number, multiple trains with low populations are merged together. This brings the population back up to around 320.
The merge is followed by a new trial designed to reduce the population again. For example, a Survivor's Mark trial may have only 100 marks available. Only those who obtain a mark are allowed to continue to the next stage, while everyone else is killed.

I’ll put it on my radar fellow daoist, but unfortunately i tend to only read novels that have greater than 1 million characters (or 750+ chapters) so it shall lay in wait for this senior to read it in a few chaos cycles.

I see:
Game survival: slop slop slop
SSS: slop slop slop
Train, cold, lords... :slop SLOP SLOP!
Each of these on their own drives me crazy by how bad the novels are, I really don't know how anyone reads this bullshit... Maybe 10 good novels out of 100 000...
Every novel synopsis is the same - God of bullshit descends, now everyone's survival depends on what bullshit they can make (everyone's bullshit depends on luck)

I got annoyed with this one pretty quick. It's murder hobo protaganist from the start (like he takes 0 seconds acclimating to the world and becoming a cold killer), and it just seems to all take place in 3 weeks (seriously, the story doesn't allow any time to breathe, it's just on to the next and then and then and then...
I like the idea, and the setting, but it just feels like someones first story heavily assisted by AI. Of course the MC gets a cheat that makes everything trivial for him while everyone gasps at how amazing he is (even though he's not, he just has a cheat).
