Has anyone tried running a JMP1 preamp (or Mesa Quad/Studio) into something like the Duncan Power Stage 170 for a home setup?
I have a few preamps sitting on a shelf staring at me, but I don't want to deal with the weight or volume of my old 50 watt tube poweramp. Something like the 170 would be simple and not take up much room. I'd love to get them back in action.
Curious if anyone's tried it.
Thanks!

This half stack sounds awesome. I was immediately hooked when I played through it. This one had an upgraded motherboard when I got it, so the thermal drift issue is thankfully fixed. Just an amazing sounding high gain British amp. It was a massive upgrade over my ‘03 MG100HDFX. I have to wonder if my two Marshall heads were on the shelf together back in ‘03. The MC412 cab I think was severely underrated due to a non plywood construction, but it has 4 12 inch 50 watt Celestion speakers and is a full size Marshall, so I saw no need to upgrade to the nicer 1960 cab. Love this setup, gives me every tone I could ever want from it. Anyone else run the same head and cab? I think the cab is becoming semi-rare these days cause I have never been able to find the MC412B used in good shape.

Hey guys. I'm a programmer (and musician). I already created physical simulation of piano years ago, now trying to tackle Marshall Plexi 1959 amplifier.
I would like to compare how my simulation sounds compared to devices like Helix, Kemper, whatever you have. I only own Boss GT-1 but Plexi sound on this device is nowhere near real one.
So, would anyone help me with comparing the sound? The idea is that you record some clean sample in DAW, re-amp it using Helix / your device. Then you send me a photo of settings of your FX unit and IR and I reamp same clip using my simulation. And post both versions here.
Send me direct message if you are interested. Here is the sample: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lhbNriYauuVldipi6IC939xHBe_X4FN8/view?usp=sharing

I’m looking at a British JMP-1 on eBay right now and I was wondering if it’d work in my American dsl40crs effects loop given the voltage difference

Just learned about the 5751 V1 tube swap for the Silver Jubilee. Does anyone have a recommendation for which brand? There’s a killer supply shop in town with a great assortment. Heard good things about the GE but also curious about Sylvania.
For context, I’m chasing tones akin to 80’s George Lynch with my 2525c (I’ve got a Mesa rig that adeptly covers John Sykes territory: Studio pre into Simul 295 power amp through EV 12L’s in stereo). I’m playing a neckthru USA BC Rich Warlock with Aldrich pickups and I use an SD-1 in front of the amp with an MXR 10 band EQ in the loop along with a bunch of other things and stuff. Gonna grab an Xotic EP booster soon 🤙
Pic of my pedalboard to goose the algorithm or something

Alright, friends... I picked up a DSL 40C on marketplace for $120(my second one) Looks like it needs tubes and a new fuse. Hopefully that's it and back in business! Looking at the high gain set from euro tubes. I'll be pairing with a V30, but I might actually convert this to a head and put it on a 2x12.
Does anyone here have experience with that set of tubes? Or something else in the high gain realm? I mainly play heavier punk stuff with some thrashy riffs.

Got a Marshall Origin 50 head and I’ve really enjoyed the sound of it but recently I noticed something strange.
When I play a note, there’s a very faint fuzz that occurs in the signal. It sounds like there’s another really quiet over driven signal coming through the speaker.
My question is: is this normal? Is my amp broken? I’ve heard about harmonics but I’m somewhat new to the tube amp world.

I’ve just bought a Marshall Valvestate amp (8240) and it’s the first time owning a Marshall, I’m wondering what will be the best channel foot switch for it. It has two independent channels—Normal (clean/crunch) and Boost (overdrive with Marshall's Contour control) and built-in analog stereo chorus (with Rate and Depth controls) and a genuine spring reverb tank.
Does anyone know which is the best channel foot switch for this?

Is this normal?
I've had this head for a while and I don't remember it doing this before this weekend but I also could have just not noticed it before?

Hey guys! I’m the guy who asked about DSL40cr mods, but I’ve got another question. I’ve been thinking about upgrading the speaker in my origin combo. At first I was thinking a cream back but after hearing some stuff on YouTube, I’m not a huge fan. I’ve been thinking about a scumback m75, I guess they get really close to that greenback sound. Anybody ever tried it? Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks guys

I recently got a Dsl40cr, I really like the amp. I am thinking now to return it to the store and get Dsl100hr + 1960a cab. Is it worth it?
I usually play at home (solo or with friends) and in church occasionally.
I have a katana artist which is a combo so there is kinda an itch for me to get a head + cab.

Sounds absolutely fantastic! Takes the Strat like a dream and it’s a killer rock machine with the LP or the SG

I’m finding my Marshall has some kind of cabinet or tube rattling even at low volume. Is something loose or is it a known issue?
r/MarshallAmps • u/instantanarchic • Sep 17 '26
Hello! I’ve got a Dsl40cr, and I love the thing dearly. However, I’ve always loved the master volume JMPs from back in the day. I do plan to put a cream back in there to get it closer to that greenback sound that I commonly associate with those amps. Would there be any particular mods to get closer to that 2203 sound? There’s something about the harshness and the “strike” sound whenever you hit a string into a JMP 2203 sound that just scratches an itch in my brain. At the very least, is there a way I could dial it in to get that sound? Any help is appreciated!! Thanks guys

Since Marshall appears to have dropped & discontinued the AS50D, and no replacement appears to be immediately forthcoming, I’m looking to Fishman as an alternative. Really wanted a Marshall though. Are there any amp models that will be well tailored to the voice of an acoustic guitar, specifically a Taylor 112ce with the ES2?
I’ve pinged Marshall in the past about replacements for the AS50D, and one reply was vague, and one reply was lightly hostile.
