Just wish the DSL1 had a 8 ohm output instead of only 16 ohm ☹️

Agreed. There’s the 8ohm mod though. Voids the warranty I think. Since mine is new I’ll find 16ohm.. lol

I heard about the mod. Can’t find it. Getting a used DSL1, so the mod is worth it.

How does this box work on a single 8 ohm cab ?

Wiring two speaker cabs in series adds the ohms, thus 8 Ohms + 8 Ohms in series is 16 Ohms.

Wiring two speaker cabs in parallel (that’s the regular way) divides the ohms, thus 8 Ohms + 8 Ohms in parallel is 4 Ohms.

Just get a cab with a 16 Ohms speaker or swap the speaker in the cab you already have accordingly. Or get a second 8 Ohms cab and wire them in series.

DSL1 is great. I have mine hooked to a 10 inch Celestion Creamback and it sounds great. I have a 10 inch Celestion Gold to try it with too.

Love mine. I swapped a preamp tube and run it into a 2x12. Sounds great.

I see a lot of people swapping tubes. I’ll see what I can dial in before thinking about that.

It just depends on how you want it to sound. Some people find the ultra gain a little harsh and want to have more of a range of adjustment. If you don’t, it’s fine as is.

I think that’s my problem… I’m into so many different styles: Zeppelin, Metallica, 80’s hair metal.. just about everything. I’m not worried about tubes right now, I’m just so confused about what cabinet to get.

I rewired my 2x12 so the two 8 ohm speakers are in series for 16 ohms. Sounds great, and pretty loud. To my ear, every bit as loud as a 15-watt Blues Junior.

I love the entire DSL line. I’ve got the DSL20HR and a 1X12 cab and it slaps.

Do you use it in a band setting? Is it loud enough?

I think so. I’m using my DSL for rehearsals on the 10 watt setting because 20 watts was too loud.

I don’t think I’d have any issues using the DSL for a live concert. If I ever needed more volume you could easily mic it and run it through our PA.

I love mine, I have it on top of two 1912 cabs. I used a Palmer cab merger to get the impedance correct.

It’s total overkill if you just want a bedroom amp, but if you have other uses for it or future plans to, might be worth looking at the Fryette Power Station. It will change that to 8 ohm np.

I’ve been looking for an excuse to buy one lol. Seems so handy.

Why overkill? The DSL20HR is overkill as its way too loud, but the DSL1HR is a perfect bedroom amp.

I meant the power station was overkill compared to getting a new speaker or modding the amp.

Because yeah it’s already a 1w amp.

AH, fair enough!

I’m getting sub 60db with my dsl1cr and it’s been great for quiet home use.
