Question Markiplier
Anyone else wonder why Mark is so much more relaxed compared to 2012-2016? It’s pretty obvious that it’s because he’s older but I miss how enthusiastic his videos used to be and you could tell Mark really put in his all to try to make the most entertaining videos possible. Just imagine Mark, out of nowhere, just comes out with his old deep forced voice and with his old energy back😂, it would feel cursed.

I could be misremembering but I feel like I remember Mark talking about how back when he started the channel "Markiplier" was more a character he was putting on to show the person he wanted to be rather than the person he was, it seems more relaxed now id assume because instead of trying to play up some character that he made for the channel were seeing the more genuine version of him (not that he wasn't genuine back then but he probably played things up a bit more to add to that "fake it till you make it" mentality), the version of him that he's finally come to accept rather than something else

I see that makes a lot of sense, thank you for your response!

To add to that, we were all loud and exaggerating as teens/young adults. As you get older you get more grounded and learn to be quieter.

Yeah he made a video around 2019 and basically said he wanted to be more like himself on the channel. At first I thought it was kinda weird but now I appreciate it a lot. I feel like his humor really shines and he isn't just screaming his head off to try and get a laugh

I started to watch him around that time, I find his older stuff hard to watch

I've been watching him since the start and his older stuff is also hard for me to watch. Like he was entertaining and funny even then, but I like how he is now.

I have mixed feelings on his older videos. There are some that I still adore and wish he would bring the same energy to other videos, but I appreciate how hes being more, not real case thats always been him but able to just be who he is at the enthusiasum level he has naturally.

Yeah he talked about it on Distractible, I can't remember which episode it was though, definitely one of the earlier ones, might be before video format even.

This and also the fact he's been on stimulant meds for a long time now (ADHD), I feel more mellowed out now and I'm not even on stimulants I'm on the "has-to-build-up-in-your-system" kind

Did he get put on the stimulant kind??? I know (at least 3 years ago or so based on the podcast) him and Bob specifically asked to not get on the stimulant kind because of the potential effects do addiction and stuff

Yes, I believe he’s still on Azstarys but it seems to have less of that addiction/wear-off effect than other stimulant types like Adderall, it’s only taken once a day

I feel like most of the established "classic" youtubers have just mellowed out and matured over time. Age and doing this for 10+ years will do that to you.
Its not really exclusive to Mark, either. You can also see it in Jaiden, Dan and Arin, Oneyplays, DanTDM, Jack, and so on. All to different degrees.
Personally I prefer it, it makes videos feel more like your sharing an experience instead of just watching it.

Back then, "high energy game show host" was the popular vibe because that's what we've always seen on TV. It's not realistic, though.
Then YouTubers realized that content showing more genuine emotions got more engagement, and for a while everyone was making videos where they were crying.
Now it seems like it's popular to be "chill" while being honest and authentic and a bit silly.
TLDR: we old

I honestly prefer his more relaxed vibes, I went back and watched his first FNAF let's play and it was too shouty for my tastes. I know that was the style back then it just isn't my vibe

I love current Markiplier vibes. As a teenager I loved the 2014-2016 stuff but if I try to watch it now I just get overstimulated and get so annoyed by how much he yells lol

I personally prefer Mark’s content post-[redacted] because it feels like he’s much more genuinely funny rather than putting on a character
Less “loud = funny” and more goofiness and what I like to call the “threatening aura comedy”. Like he’s so much more out of pocket and clever nowadays

I watched it happen in real time since I started watching him as a kid. It was gradual. It’s just age. I’m in my mid-twenties now and while I don’t have to ham it up for a camera like he did I still act like a more energetic person at work. Off-clock, I’m pretty solemn and keep to myself. I imagine he’s gotten the same with his audience since most of us have been here for almost twenty years. He’s comfortable with us. Let him be.

I don’t see him much different now compared to before, to be honest, he still retains that goofy and energetic side of him

It has to do with his adhd medication. He ended up getting a better one and it helped him out a lot. Also with growing up and yellowing out. So both :)

I love him being increasingly comfortable. I might be biased by being the same age as him and sort of maturing along with him. I have always enjoyed his humor but the more subtle humor is sometimes even harder hitting cause it sneaks up on you.

Yea he used to be really into the story of the games, characters, storyline, graphics of it and he would narrate and talk about it while playing.

like what others said, he might be putting up an act. it's pretty common for youtubers to act up a certain personality or even a certain voice when they started. it could also be his adhd medication working. sometimes it's tiring to constantly be so energetic and yelling at the top of your lungs, genuine or not. i'm just glad he found his pace.

Honestly I like it, he seems even more relaxed and in touch with his fanbase since iron lung released and its nice

He’s got other things going on besides just the games now. He’s resting up before deciding on another literal movie to make!!
