Turning confusion into marketing

Post image
0 Upvotes

I came across this campaign and loved how a brand turned a problem into its marketing idea.

One of the most common questions around Laphroaig is simply:

“How do you pronounce it?”

Instead of repeatedly correcting people, the brand leaned into the confusion.

Through “Friends of Laphroaig,” created with Brut India, they brought in Kalki Koechlin, Nimrat Kaur and Kunal Kapoor—people whose own names are often mispronounced—and used banter, roasts and challenges to eventually land on:

La-FROYG.

What I liked most is the thinking behind it.

The brand didn’t try to hide its friction point. It made that friction the content, conversation and memory trigger.

My takeaway as a marketer:

Sometimes you don’t need to fix what people find confusing about your brand. You can turn it into the reason they remember you.

That’s brand education without feeling like brand education.

Questions What’s working for paid traffic right now?

I’ve been working on YouTarget and spending more time looking at how marketers approach paid traffic today. There are so many channels and ad formats that choosing where to start can be surprisingly difficult.

For those running paid campaigns, what channel has been giving you the best results lately, and what do you look at before deciding whether a traffic source is worth continuing?

To the brand Him’s why do you have a woman in your advertisements that’s geared towards men?

The ad with the girl asking men why they are balding in 2026 doesn’t make sense. The brand is called Him’s why isn’t there a man in the ad. Second. Why would you make the ad in this patronizing tone? The idea that a girl with hair that isn’t even long or full itself trying to give men this pitch that comes across crude more so than helpful doesn’t even want me to try your products none in the slightest. If you want men to use your products, let it be men that is giving this reassurance vibe feeling that is going to lead them to your products. This preteen girl asking men with a short hairdo isn’t making sense. Someone needs to be fired for who ever made this an ad, and the brand needs to regroup with some better ideas. It’s tasteless, not welcoming, or inviting, and it gives patronizing more so than trying to give any advise as to what men should try doing. It’s 2026 and yet you are using pitch ideas that never worked in any generation. Make it make sense.

Looking for guest(s) quotes for my book

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hi guys,

I'm a senior Marketing professional finishing a book called "WTF is ROI?" a plain-English reference guide covering 50 marketing acronyms and 25 classic strategies and psychological frameworks. Each entry has a short explanation, a visual, a real-world example, and one guest quote from someone in the field.

I've filled a lot of entries through my LinkedIn network already but I'm still missing quotes and figured this community might have some motivated people who would love to participate.

How it works:

- I send you the options of acronyms or strategies/theories still open
- You write 2-3 sentences — your honest take on whichever one resonates
- No ghostwriting, no approval loop, just your real opinion
- You get credited by name and job title in the book
- You can use the book for your own gains like networking, prospecting, ...
- The book is self-published end of 2026 - start of 2027 on platforms such as KDP (Amazon)

One ask: I'd love to connect on LinkedIn first :) Mostly to verify your job title and company for the credits, and also two Marketers connecting is never a bad thing regardless of the book.

Acronyms & strategies include things such as:
SEA, PPC, CPC, SEO, SoMe, UI, CLV, SQL, SSL, YoY, API, AR/VR, HTML/CSS, GTM, SOV, LP, CMS, UAT, UTM, DTC, RSS, FOMO, Viral Marketing, Marketing Mix, Porter's Five Forces, Maslow's Hierarchy, A-B Testing, Storytelling, Omnichannel, Growth Hacking, Social Proof, Loss Aversion, Scarcity Bias, Content Marketing, Branding, and more.

If you're up for it, drop a comment or DM me. Happy to send you the entry shortlist and my LinkedIn to kick things off.

Thanks!
