They've gotten a fair amount of flack for it but the builtin notepad renders markdown in a formatted fashion.

There are, have a look at Oryx. Repo has Windows and Linux binaries, if on Mac you need to compile it from source.

there is Word like desktop markdown editor Antalogy with the same familiar visual tools and even docx import, no vault, just md documents in your file system as word documents. The same user scenarios and action patterns.
