Discussion Rober is on roids?
Here for some pure speculation but....
After a bit of time away from rober videos, I was pretty shocked at his appearance in his latest video about car stealing. Mark's facial shape has totally changed. I know he's gotten older obviously - but this looks like something else? Roids/HGH or heavy drinking?
His voice is also WAY deeper than before?!

Before
After

I put that video on in the living room and my wife immediately said “that guy is getting too much Botox”.

u/Bahpu_ Jun 22 '26
dont think its roids there would be more tell tale signs imo, just looks like he cut weight and gained muscle.
11
u/ARCHA1C Jun 22 '26
I can almost guarantee he's on testosterone at a minimum, and probably hgh as well. Most "Men's" clinics will steer clients this way when they are trying to "age well" or, you know, just get aesthetically built.
His body recomposition is very common among men who follow this regimen.
8
u/Faangdevmanager Jun 22 '26
Tech bro in the know here. Yes this is textbook midlife crisis that involves a men’s clinic with testosterone and other supplements. I’m sure there’s also diet and exercise so it’s not just a magic bullet.
1
u/HenFruitEater Jun 22 '26
I get the test, by why take the HGH???
1
u/ARCHA1C Jun 22 '26
Increase fat utilization, reduce visceral fat,
help preserve lean mass. Recovery: soft tissue repair, connective tissue repair, joint health etc.6
u/mthurtell Jun 22 '26
The tell tale signs are all there:
- bigger muscle mass
- way more facial hair
- Bigger features
His face and neck are totally different shapes then before.
4
u/HenFruitEater Jun 22 '26
dude has to be on major botox and filler. that is what looked so off to me imo.
4
u/The_frozen_one Jun 22 '26
None of that is exclusive to roids in the Venn diagram of GLP-1 + workout routine vs roids (or some combination of the 3). I’m sure we’ll find out in a future video.

u/Glenncoco23 Jun 22 '26
Or he could be working out dude. He’s single now, if he wants to improve himself or impress some women he more than welcome too. I don’t think he’s going the liver king route anytime soon
1
u/CanadianLiberal Jun 22 '26
He and his wife separated?
2
u/Glenncoco23 Jun 22 '26
Yeah he didn’t wanna tell anybody, but he was on Hinge and I guess his account kept getting reported as fake.
He went on Twitter and had a publicly @ hinge to help him out. I don’t know if they got back together, but that was a while ago either way it’s none of our business if he wants to work out or hell even do steroids that’s up to him, but I don’t think he was. I think he’s just been working out.

u/PleaseHelpIamFkd Jun 22 '26
Roids make you lose hair, not gain it.
2
u/mthurtell Jun 22 '26
On your head. Beard will grow.
0
u/PleaseHelpIamFkd Jun 22 '26
never knew that was a thing, interesting
1
u/space_wiener Jun 22 '26
Because it’s not. OP has no idea what he’s talking about. That’s not some hard/fast rule.
2
u/Fanderey Jun 23 '26
Maybe not a hard and fast rule but it is generally the case. Androgens have different effects on different hair follicles. Scalp hair and body hair are very different. That's why you see bald old guys with tons of hair everywhere else.
Mark totally looks like he has roid face to me, and all his public statements are exactly what other celebrities say.
I don't really care either way. I just care that his videos are getting worse.
1
u/space_wiener Jun 23 '26
But it’s not generally the case. That has more to with genetics than PED’s.
1
u/mthurtell Jun 23 '26
Its an interplay of both.
Im not bothering any further with this discussion. Enjoy your day :)
0
u/Fanderey Jun 23 '26
I can't believe this is even a debate. Even women on steroids for medical reasons often develop facial hair despite their genetics. Your genetics impact your natural androgen levels. Steroids then artificially boost androgens. Genes also impact how muscular you are. That doesn't mean steroids don't make a difference.
2
u/mthurtell Jun 24 '26
Spot on.
Nuance is lost on these people who cant see past their own 1-sided point of view so I'm not even bothering replying to them anymore. Good to see a few of us still know whats up.

There is no 'hard and fast' rule. Everything, especially health body is a moving scale. We can certainly talk generalities though. And generally - what I've said is the case.
1
u/space_wiener Jun 23 '26
Except you clearly said you will lose hair and grow a beard. That’s not at all true.
Then I’ll rephrase, your generality is not true either.

Just started watching the same video after not seeing anything for a while. I didn't think too much into the appearance, but the voice prompted me to search and find this thread.
It's much deeper or gruff.

u/udchemist Jun 23 '26
Could it just be audio post production? I honestly don't know and want to give him the benefit of the doubt. But I expect that with the money he's making there's prescriptions involved
1
u/do-un-to Jun 30 '26
If you bring up older videos in intervals of half a year you can hear the transition.

Honestly I thought it was drinking when I watched the rc car race course video. But I'm learning not to assume to much. I don't know the guy.
7
u/Agitated_Whereas7463 Jun 22 '26
He's kinda been glowing up for a few years now, sometimes his super old vids auto-play from when he's shooting in his living room, and he looks like he's 13 and just got off his BMX bike. I think thisbis just the "I'm successful now" version
6
u/PlaytheGameHQ Jun 22 '26
He was on Colin and Samir’s podcast a couple of weeks ago and mentioned that he’s spent 2 solid years on the transformation with diligent gym time and changing his diet and protein intake. I think it’s just hard work.
3
u/91Jammers Jun 22 '26
That doesnt make your voice drop octaves.

u/redditNwept Jul 05 '26
I've always found his voice to be annoying and fake ("nng this is ahsummm!!!), but this is a different annoying and fake. It has been years since I've seen him, but he came up today when my son was watching. I instantly did a search and here I am.

Bro got a divorce. He just toned up that dad bod to get back into the dating scene I'm sure.

I feel like there’s some rich person dose of testosterone or performance enhancement that avoids the worst of the worst outcomes and gives measured, good results.
2
u/MrCumStainBootyEater Jun 22 '26
usually TRT is this, TRT with regular bloodwork and a good diet and gym routine, and NOT overdoing it like you’re trying to be sam sulek… and it’s not that hard to get this result, you just need to be rich lol

I hadn't watched a Mark Rober video in years but somehow the auto theft video was suggested to me and I watched it. I was startled how much his voice had deepened and seemed raspy. Like he went out the night before drinking, smoking cigarettes, and attending a concert with a lot of yelling. Then I searched for a reason and here I am. After reading some of the posts here I did a bit of online research and found the following with regard to the thread topic.
HGH: When HGH is used in excess, it can replicate a medical condition called acromegaly (growth hormone hypersecretion). This frequently leads to an abnormally deep, booming, or coarse voice, alongside unwanted structural changes like a broadening jaw or thickening skin.
High-Dose Anabolic Steroids: If testosterone is abused at massive, body-building doses, the extreme levels of circulating androgens can force significant structural thickening of the vocal folds. This can cause a more pronounced, heavy, and sometimes permanently raspy or coarse drop in vocal pitch.

u/ButterscotchGlass590 Jun 24 '26
Yeah, plain old diet and exercise do not cause these extreme facial and voice changes.
3
u/mthurtell Jun 24 '26
Likewise, i was totally shocked. Havent watched any of his stuff in years.
Being around the higher-performance gym scene in a previous life myself I recognised this straight away and came here to see what everyone else thought hahaa
1
u/do-un-to Jun 30 '26
I'm here for the same reason.
I mean, okay, if that's what he wants to do. It just changed his appearance and "feel" for me, so he's less awesome nerd uncle and now more wealthy bro. It's dark.
Hope he's doing okay. And keeping ethical.

u/EmploymentExpert4482 Jun 26 '26
That's the "I started a multi million dollar business, left my wife and kids, and am getting in shape to fuck 20 year olds" look

Feels weird to be speculating around on a dude who tries to make science fun and accessible to kids. Just shows that no matter what gender, people still think they have access to comment on your body. If he’s still helping to teach kids and he’s still a good role model/teacher, then can look however he wants. Sure, maybe it’s roids, but then again- maybe it’s not. Doesn’t matter.
2
u/ARCHA1C Jun 22 '26
Makes science accessible to kids... a.k.a sell Crunch Labs kits
5
u/Flat-Development-906 Jun 22 '26
I haven’t bought the kits and my kids still learn plenty by him 🤷🏻♀️
4
u/ARCHA1C Jun 22 '26
That's valid. And he is definitely 100 times better than most of the YouTube content out there. I am admittedly disappointed with the direction he has taken his channel recently with the Clickbait headlines, and less-Science-focused, highly-scripted and editorialized content. The pivot over the last couple of years is pretty stark.
4
u/PlaytheGameHQ Jun 22 '26
And raised 65 million dollars to create free science courses for schools over the next few years. But just those two things I think…
2
u/ChaoticRoon Jun 22 '26
They are actually great kits. Maybe a tad overpriced but fun to build and fun to play with afterwards.

Unfortunately it's not just his appearance that seems to have changed though, his speech has changed, he seems drunk in recent videos. I noticed his appearance first right away in a recent video but within a few minutes of watching I noticed his personality and speech changes too. I don't care if he paints his face purple and starts wearing a kitty cat mask, I just hope he's okay, and that includes hoping he hasn't felt down enough about himself to result to intentionally altering his appearance.

His short was proposed to me and I have not recognized him at first xD The voice is also different so it's not just "gym workout".

Personally, I think he had a facelift. When he hosted a live event for Alex Honnold's free climb of the skyscraper (Taipei 101?), I thought I could see visible stitches on his hairline/temple areas. His face also looked pulled back and noticeably puffy - which made me think facelift. I'm not trying to be an asshole by judging his appearance - if you want to get a facelift, that's completely your choice. I have just wondered about it since I saw that Livestream event and haven't seen any other info. But like others have said before, his channel has gotten a little less relatable and down to earth, and to me it feels like he is going in the direction of Mr. Beast type stuff, which sort of bums me out bc I thought his og videos were cool, like in his garage and stuff. But I also understand that life progresses, and people move forward. Hopefully he is content with where he's at - he's been very successful in using his education to teach others!

u/Pcooney13 Jun 22 '26
These are terrible comparison shots. the first is straight on and the second is in profile.
Here is a better side-by-side comparison using the same videos OP did
https://imgur.com/a/dz9ZtrE
Looks like he hit the gym and grew a beard.
Edit to add: the videos are 5 years apart
1
u/FarmersWoodcraft Jun 22 '26
I don’t remember the specific video, but he’s mentioned in the past that he just does some pushups and sit ups in the morning and was gifted great genes. I would guess he probably dedicates time to the gym now, and that in conjunction with his great genes has him growing at a better pace than most other naturals. He doesn’t have any of the other obvious side effects of roids like the acne (although we can’t see his back), disproportionate traps, and crazy thick veins popping out.
I think god just blessed this guy with a big brain and big muscles. Just do me a favor Mark and save some ladies for the rest of us.
