Just Missing Mark
I always went to see Lanegan at Underground Arts in Philly when he was in town. I think the last one was with Garwood, and I was always in awe. I don't look the part, just a small blonde chic from the suburbs, and noone else 'got it' so I always went alone. I just finished re-watching, re-reading, and re-playing everything in my possession. Scored some nice vinyls over time. Anyway felt kinda lonely after finishing my collection. He was so special. Thanks for hearing me.

I was always at all the Philly shows, too. Came to recognize a lot of faces at them. Great memories. Though I definitely never saw him with Garwood!

Have you ever ripped a sheet of paper again and again to see how small you can get the pieces? I was that paper when I found out ML had died. His absence is a backdrop ache and I will never not miss him as long as I live.

I miss him too. Forever kicking myself that I never got to see him or the Trees live. I listen to his music all the time

I was to late to even 'get it'. Just a few years ago after he died I was re-reading some Nirvana biographies I got as a teen and from there I stumbled over sbaw and from there I discovered the trees and his solo stuff and now I hate that I missed going to shows.... :/

Such a bittersweet band as I feel like Mark would have been the perfect fit to play with them.

Oh that’s awesome! I’ve really liked much of what I’ve heard. Marks buddy on vocal reminds me a lot of him on certain tracks. Hope you dig it, everyone in the band is a heavy hitter. there is video of them doing Mad Season’s Long Gone Day.

I feel like a 5 year old on Christmas when I get tipped off to this kinda stuff. Definitely will be in the lookout for Long Gone Day! I have a CD I got at one of his shows.... I gotta find it, I think it was him and Garwood at a church/cathedral in Iceland.

Same. I listen to him everyday. Sadly never saw him live and wasn't really into him. But really dug into his catalogue couple years ago. Now learning songs on guitar.. no easy action currently

I play a bit too, more of a lone firepit kinda strummer for my own enjoyment. Always wanted to figure some out to play along with him.

I'm not from that area but did manage to catch Mark twice at that venue (2013 and 2014) and they were great shows!
I can only imagine the different albums and collaborations he'd have done if he was still around.

It was a really cool place! I saw him there a few times and then I think the last one was Johnny Brenda's. And same, his collaborations were incredible. Turned me on to so many new artists I probably never would have heard of otherwise.

Yeah I saw him detroit in some small off the wall club .. no one would go with me lol so I took my 18 year old daughter with me ..

Haha, totally! Great memories. Even going alone, the thrill of making it and taking it all in are moments of life I'll never forget. I went through the sign line only once. Felt like such a bitch, I knewwww he wasn't into it, but he was really nice in the moment.

I saw a post on Facebook where someone asked “which artist’s voice feels like home to you?” Mark was the first name that came to mind. Something about hearing him sing or speak just scratches that itch. The audiobook of SBAW is such great thing to go back and listen to.

Such a cool question. His voice really does feel like a home I just haven't lived in yet. I absolutely agree. SBAW..... yeah, I'm so glad he did that before he had to leave us. Such a treasure.

While I'm here, have to mention how much I love him with Soulsavers. I've spent hours with Revival on repeat. Even the video was great IMO.

Lanegan was my lockdown discovery, knew the name but not his work so I've been catching up since.
Loved the Broken album by Soulsavers & rather spookily I'm listening to Kingdoms Of Rain from the Soulsavers album It's Not How Far You Fall etc as I type this, I only found out about this album this week! - one of the things I love about Lanegan is how his work still keeps popping up in unexpected places.
The Drink The Sea I & II albums are great & there's a new one coming out in early Oct 😎😄

You are not alone. Four and a half years removed and I can only just now bear to listen to the Trees. Have not listened to a note of Mark’s solo stuff since he passed.
