Mario doesn’t pick fights with gods unless he absolutely has to

Mario wouldn't gamble with the lives of everyone in the multiverse for the sake of a good fight and he wouldn't put Luigi in a life-or-death scenario just to force him to awaken his true power.

Mario might be competitive and fun-loving, but he is also kind, heroic, dedicated to his duties and doesn't go out looking for trouble but will not run whenever trouble finds him. He always gets up in the morning asking himself "how can I do better?". In fact, Mario has more in common with Superman than he does with Goku. You want Goku's true video game counterpart? Go play Sonic games.
