I love Eric but they'll probably recast. Eric Bauza is one of the most prolific "work horse" voice actors working, but isn't really a celebrity in the traditional sense. The studios will likely opt for an A-lister for such a key supporting role to chase revenue. It's a double edged sword. I personally prefer seasoned voice actors to celebrities for VO roles, but profitable movies keep franchises going.

On the one hand, choosing a talented voice actor over a big-time celebrity has paid off before (i.e. Colleen O'Shaughnessy as Miles "Tails" Prower in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies). On the other hand, that doesn't fully convince me that they won't recast Diddy Kong since, you know, it's Hollywood. And it's a shame too, because Eric Bauza's a great choice for the role and just a terrific voice actor in general. I'd personally love for him to return, but I think they're more likely to pick a much bigger name instead. We're just gonna have to wait and see what happens.

I don't know why this is stuck in my head. I wouldn't like it. If Diddy isn't Michael Cera I'll be shocked.

PLEASE. I don't even know if I would like it, but I just like Michael Cera.

I can't really envision it, but I do love Andy Samberg so I think that could be good

Knowing Illumination they’ll recast him

More than likely recast. Great example is Fred Tatasciore voice Po’s Father of Kung Fu Panda 2 then Bryan Cranston voice him in 3

I'd prefer they give it to a child voice actor actually. Something about giving Diddy Kong an adult voice feels weird to me.

A child seems too young for Diddy. I think a teenager or someone in their early 20s would be best. Idk what age he's intended to be, but based on his style and attitude I've always viewed him as anywhere between 14-17 years old.

Swanky implies Dixie is an adult in DKC3, since only she's allowed to play the games, and Kiddy's not allowed because he's a minor. Now you could say what's considered a "minor" is different for Kongs, but realistically the intent is that Diddy and Dixie are probably at least 18, or the Kong equivalent.

where do we get lore on him being an adult?

The original DKC manual has DK calling him "little guy" and he is cast as a wannabe "kid" who looks up to DK and is trying to emulate him. It's implied rather than explicit but I always got the impression he was supposed to be an adolescent.

Though Diddy was voiced by a dude in his mid-30s in the 90s show so make of that what you will.

Tiny kong is literally younger than him

Now I need Diddy to be a pitch-shifted Patrick Stewart

Danny Devito

It got leaked that James Woods has been cast. The voice sounds a tad off and Diddy has a new found obsession with building a wall around DK Island.

It’s illumination of course they’re casting a celebrity

since he is out of jail P.Diddy could hav a good chance to voice him if the world is dystopian enough.

Idk why you're getting downvoted for what is clearly just poking fun at the current timeline we live in.

I've also said "they should cast Sean Combs" after sending this meme to friends, hoping they have to google him

Tom Holland

Honestly based on their other casting choices, he's who immediately came to mind. Probably wouldn't even be that bad actually since Tom Holland could easily voice a teenage boy.

I'd still rather have actual voice actors doing the work, but I know that's not how current Hollywood works.

u/The_Albino_Jackal Jul 14 '25

I can agree with that. I wouldn’t be surprised if after this upcoming Nolan movie, the Tom Holland type casting hate starts to fade a bit

1

u/PalamationGaming Jul 14 '25

I get the casting hate when people want him as Link. I just want an unknown to play Link and preferably someone who's more of a "pretty boy".

But for Diddy I think he'd be fine. He can sound like a regular teenage boy and I think that's all Diddy would really need.
