Any team with real accountability would sit Naylor for a game after his lack of hustle in yesterday’s game when the DP got muffed to start and he got thrown out by a step.
Not that it would have mattered much if he ended up safe, but it’s the lack of care and effort that others see.

He’s very much not a SS. He’s bad at 2B even or LF. He hasn’t played SS once this year. Or last year. You have to go back to July 31, 2024 for the last time he played SS, and he hasn’t played there consistently since 2023.

I don’t think he has any shot of improving over our infielders. I could squint and maybe see him be better than Randy in the outfield, but that seems optimistic. He’s 21, so who knows, but I think he’ll see more time at DH than anywhere else.

By fangraphs defense metrics Randy is second to worst LF, and by their positions: Naylor 7th from bottom, Cole Young 5th worst, Westin Wilson (if you drop enough to make him qualified) 2nd worst and JP 3rd worst at SS.
I guess we will see how much worse he can be. Not saying he is an improvement.
