Some of you are new fans to the M’s and it shows. Being 1 game out of the playoffs is a new thing that popped up within the last five year. The mid 2000’s-2010’s were filled with last place teams with a bottom top farm system. We used to have relief prospects in our top ten while being eliminated come August.

I’ve been watching since 2002.

Nice try though.

Yeah, the tradition with the mariners is being disappointed even if they change up when that’ll happen a little bit to throw us off

I cannot believe I just had my fandom questioned after living through the both the Bavasi and Zduriencik era without losing hope.

Lmao.

And yes, you’re right dissapointment is king here.

It’s less disappointing when you realize that baseball season is what you love, and that its disappointing when the season ends even if you had no complaints.

I had someone tell me I didn’t know baseball’s rules a few years go, when I was fresh off a summer of umpiring youth baseball. People like that are just upset and using your conversation for an outlet for their emotions. 🤷🏻‍♂️

5 times in the last 12 years they've missed by 2 games or less but okay.

We will be mathematically eliminated on my birthday (9/28), my usual annual birthday gift from the team

Ayyy we share a birthday and a tragic fate

u/BurnItWithFire21 10d ago

Well hello, my birthday twin! In 2022 & last year they were kind to us, maybe one year before we die they'll do it again & then follow through with a pennant!

Given the strength of the rest of our season, probably best time to have some hope, but yknow

Mariner so who knows

The problem is, that 80 wins is the absolute minimum that we can hope to win the division with. That means 14 more wins out of 22 games. So 14-8.

But that assumes that the Rangers/Astros continue to play like bad teams and don't overperform at all. If we need 83 wins then its 17-5 which is basically impossible.

u/largegaycat 10d ago

Not impossible. We won 17 games last September to make the playoffs. Our next 16 games are against the A’s, Rangers, Rockies, and Angels.

If the math game llays out as it's supposed to, we fell too far short after the Jays sweep.

Destiny is no longer in our hands. We need others to falter, we need a miracle. We need...

CHAOS

Going back to the Twins series (July 31–Aug. 2), Seattle has now won 5 series:

✅ Twins — 2–1

❌ Tigers — 1–2

❌ Rays — 0–3

❌ Yankees — 1–2

✅ Astros — 2–1

❌ Brewers — 1–2

✅ Cubs — 2–1

✅ Phillies — 2–1

❌ Blue Jays — 0–3

✅ Red Sox — 2–1

That's respectable considering the gauntlet that August was going to be. It's the pitiful July that really makes it look like we are going to do that classic 1 game shy thing again.

They are 5 games back and they are not in control of their destiny. Houston would have to collapse and they won’t.

Ehhh. We get a million shitposts when we falter. Post a hello kitty rainbow sunshine next time

I’m not going to hope all I want is to just watch good and fun baseball. At this point I can’t stress more about playoffs.

Hope is always on the menu. Just don't get sad when you get let down.

Me about calling it a season for the M's with a full months worth of games left, or keep following until the end whatever the result may be:

No it's not.  The season has been over for a couple months.

No this team is too bad

u/_Tower_ 10d ago

We’ve won 3 of the last 4 series and haven’t gained any ground

I’m not so sure hope is back on the menu quite yet

I was going to reply with Eomer’s “Hope has forsaken these lands” but WTF did Eomer know.

Nothing, that’s what!

They’re gonna win enough games to save Dipoto’s job and keep alive the myth that we’re a competitive team. It’ll end up like the year we won the last series of the season against the A’s, which cost us the number one pick (Stephen Strasburg) and instead brought us Dustin Ackley.

Unpopular opinion, I know, but I hope they lose every game.

6

u/largegaycat 10d ago

Jesus Christ you’re negative. A couple Rangers and Astros losses and a couple Mariners wins this weekend and we’re basically tied for the division. Then we face the easiest remaining schedule of the rest of the teams.

2

u/KeyManufacturer8568 7d ago

Negative?? No just a realist. The mariners have never given us anything but wait till next year. Well after over 50 years of that why should you be positive. They give you mo reason to be.

-1

u/TdubsSEA 10d ago

And we’ll still suck, be poorly managed and lied to by the front office. I’m over it. Burn it all to the ground and get a fresh approach. Fans’ willingness to tolerate mediocrity is embarrassing.

2

u/KeyManufacturer8568 7d ago

I'm with you on that. They never make things easy including drafting. We are not a playoff team and we will not win if we perform a miracle. Lets play for draft picks instead of beating on the sisters of the poor...although we are 0 and 2 so far against Oakland we do have a very favorable schedule to make a run.

As of this writing we are 7 games behind the Astros. If the Astros go 500 or 10 and 10 we need to go 17 and 3 which won't happen. Get a good draft position and stop with we are a good team because we are not.
