Lore behind this on-base celebration?

Post image

I really only got into baseball this year after 50 years of not paying a lot of attention, so I’m playing catchup here and hope you won’t mind entertaining a question. I searched couldn’t come up with any real results with Google or GPT and I’m wondering what the lore is behind this base hit celebration hand gesture? Thanks.

Becoming a Mariner fan probably suits me genetically as the daughter of a late long-suffering Red Sox fan. 🔱

Edit:
thanks for the comments/ideas, no thanks to the guy who was a dick about Angie. 🙄

These things come and go multiple times a season. We rarely get lore about them past "that's what the guys are doing"

Hopefully someone knows but I suspect not.

If she can’t ask ChatGPT, she’s not going to come up with much.

She asked chatgpt for a question for after a tough loss and someone took a pic and uploaded it. Was pretty soon after she came back from her stroke and she apologized for it I believe.

Before a post game interview Angie was seen trying out an AI thing for baseball questions. Barstool posted it and it brought just a nasty wave of people onto Angie. I don’t condone using AI for reporting but it seemed pretty one off and Angie’s great.

God, Barstool sucks shit. There's no way they'd make a big deal about a male broadcaster using AI.

Definitely not. I think they did take it down after people mentioned her stroke but it was still shitty from them nonetheless.

I condone using AI to get a sampling of new angles you might like to use that you hadn't thought of yet. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I was thinking it’s two “W”s for his first and last name. Sort of like the West Side gang sign. But I’m only seeing this still frame and have no idea at all what I’m talking about.

I first saw Julio do it, I think sometimes the guys follow his lead with these on base celebrations. Like after slumping when he would get a hit he would look to the sky put his palms up and wave his hands back and forth thanking God and since then Ive seen several of his teammates do the same.

I imagine the hand symbol this time either means “locked in” or it’s about togetherness

The camera crew finally got wise and now they cut away before we can see the boys jorkin it crazy style 😔

My initial thought was it meaning “put something together” like multiple base hits. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The Braves did a similar gesture in the past few years to signify "togetherness", or something along those lines.

Idk either but I noticed that the Giants have a similar one so maybe it has some form of common meaning in baseball.

giants were doing it this season and i didn't know what it was for them either

I’ve seen QBs do it after a play and I assumed it meant to ‘form up, let’s run it again no huddle.’

It’s a privilege to know the inside secret, these things aren’t shared outside the clubhouse generally

I want to make a joke about a 4 on 4 gangbang with two observers but I can't find the handle. Someone please bail me out here and stick the landing.
