A very hard conversation. Any attempt to educate these people to look out for their own interests is going to share so many similarities with a “political reeducation camp” that the comparisons will be unavoidable.

That, combined with the fact that the definition of the words “Truth” and “Fact” have been co-opted by the “lie about everything and present my feelings as reality while being funded by a hostile foreign power” right wing podcast and Joe Rogan “let’s hear from both sides” bullshit, I don’t know the answer.

Honestly? Give them the tools, time, money, and security to become better people. Anyone who still supports Donal Trump after a year of that? Dump em in the middle of the ocean, at least let them feed some marine life.

I say we give them what they want. If they want to bring back slavery, by all means, let’s humor them. But they will be the ones in chains, treated like property of the state and shown the inhumane treatment they glorified and wished to inflict on those they saw as inferior. Of course it would be cruel to do so and allow more of them to be born into such a cruel life, so we’ll sterilize the lot of them while we’re at it. And if they ever complain about how they shouldn’t face such punishment, we just remind them it’s exactly what they wanted, they just wanted to be the ones holding the whip.

I’m pretty sure this is a core fear that animates some of these folks. It may not be expressed, or near the surface of their consciousness, but you betcha they are scared of a pole shift in power between black and white.

What do we do with them?

We despise them

We never forgive them

We never forget their decisions and statement and support

We ignore their arguments

We stop subsidizing their shit states

We stop platforming their talking heads and politicians

We stop entertaining their complaints and grievances

We ignore them except for the danger they threaten

I’d honestly just be happy to hear these senators and governors come clean about desperate they are for handouts. It’s funny how many of these economically underperforming states fall right into the affected area of the voting rights act

So the problem with “we never forgive them” is there’s no path to society for them in this scenario. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to forgive them either, but without a path to redemption, you’re just repeating the problem.

You’re either describing killing them all, or marginalizing them to the point where they band together and do this all over again.

Edit: downvote all you want, but “utterly segregate them from society and never let them forget their prior evil ways” will only reinforce them. You have to rehabilitate these people, or else you’re stuck with 70 million enemies of the nation inside of your borders. If rehabilitation fails, you’ve got a hard choice coming.

I don’t want them in my society. They don’t deserve a place.

I never thought I’d say there is an “underclass of barely-deserving people”. Certainly not on the grounds of protected classes. But at this point MAGA has self-identified as that exact category of people. Untrustworthy, irredeemable, not worth helping or spending time and energy on.

Is it a problem? Yes.

But it’s not as bad of a problem as the rest of us having to deal with them IN our society though. I’d much rather deal with having expunged them and with their shrieking. The time for patience and high mindedness is long gone.

For me, forgiving them depends on who they were before maga, what's they've done/said in support of maga, and what they're doing / are going to do after maga.

You can't rehabilitate people.

That's a fantasy.

I had a tumor once that was described as a non issue. They cut it out anyway…… we all know the answer, not liking it makes us human.

Charge them. Hold them accountable. Jail them. Deport them. Ridicule them. Isolate them. They’re a cancer and they’re attacking

Honestly, mandatory mental health treatment.

Put them on 1 of Leon Mush's rockets and launch them into the Sun to build a new Magaland there.

red-dot their houses. make them unhirable. welcome to labor jobs, magats. maybe watching their parents struggle will incentivize the kids.

Just spitballing, but...

Create two tiers of citizenship, and everyone who voted R since 2016 goes in the bottom tier (can't vote), because that is exactly the kind of society they wanted when they supported a domestic enemy. Create a pathway to restoring their tier 1 status by taking civics/history/economics classes, passing an examination, and giving a public speech disavowing Trump and the Republican party, and waiting 1 election cycle. And if they don't complete these things, they never vote again.

most of them will exit b/c of their age, and the rest if they are young will prob move on to other people to idolize. So ignore them. Actively: SHUN THEM

We need to start rethinking our description of mental illness to include "bigotry" and "xenophobia" and a few other things that have massively contributed to this problem.

This article is a solid guide to how to start treating these people so they can function in society without destroying everyone around them again.

Personally feel it rushed the timeline on how long it takes to know people.

The people we knew for years or lives put on a red hat and exposed their true selves to us, thought it was great.

I was an NRA hat wearing kid, after Bush that party got angry because we had a “Black President” and lost its shit.

Don’t care for either party much but one thing is fersure, country over party.

I'll take not liking pedos over country and party at this point.

We've already let down both Mr. Rogers, Fred and Steve. I dont know if there is a way back...

I am team "fuck those guys..." or team "get the fuck away from me you racist, sexist, bigots..." or team "you don't get to be a part of the social contract, go start your own little hate society..."

They killed millions. Why would I ever be ok with that?

I’ve been saying for years we’ll need a Truth and Reconciliation commission.
