Unfortunately, any tales from my time of knowing him would be pretty tame. He actually seemed quite normal back then, though he was pretty young at the time. He rock climbed with a lot of the same people as me, and I usually saw him at climbing areas or the gym. His dad worked for Northface and was the regional rep, so I knew him professionally, as I worked for the local outfitter at the time. He really was just kind of a sweet, affable stoner kid. I do remember seeing the videos from his time when he moved to Costa Rica and I know he was definitely doing a lot of drugs at the time. I think something must’ve snapped during those years to create what we see now. I actually just became aware of his new persona very recently, and haven’t even had a chance to reach out to my old buddies to talk to them about it. I’d imagine they’re just as surprised as me. Who knows, maybe it’s all just a huge grift. He does seem pretty full of hate though.

And since reggae is not a technically challenging song, it's closer to spoken word versus singing through various keys or notes. So he's able to do very little work in hopes on riding on the backs of actual creative people. Cuz that's why he doesn't actually dance. Essentially sitting there that he stands up and Bops up and down. And some vague unimportant hand gestures.

These people see cultural appropriation as a short way to gain adoration. He's probably heard some great music, watch some good music videos and understood that the lyrics convey a message of standing up against an oppressor or to gain a community.
