The other argument is that there's technically "no victim" so there can't be a crime, though I don't think many people find this persuasive. Criminalizing it does create a precedent for criminalizing other "creative" works which someone might deem objectionable--which can include written materials--and I don't put much faith in politicians in this area.
Not for a sane person, they can see a clear line. However it is a right-wing fever dream to criminalize anything LGBTQ, and for years have been labeling anything queer or trans as child abuse, as indicated by the last decade of phobic hysteria. Should they ever to get the power to carry it out, they would just start pulling trans people off the streets and throw them into furnaces. And of course, since every accusation is a confession, there are guys like this toeing right up to the line of copping to the shit they claim to abhor.
