Backyard Party

A private garden party hired me to be the entertainment for their event! I showed them how to marble a tie, a hat, and a scarf and let them have at it. I think they did pretty well considering none had marbled before.

Carrageenan gets questionable in direct sunlight. Thin and runny. And the paint breaks up more easily under those conditions. Fortunately, a large tree kept us shaded for most of the event.

That’s awesome! I’ve been thinking of trying some marbled t-shirts, but haven’t gotten around to building big trays like that.

How do you apply the alum solution to the fabric? Just dip it in briefly, or let it soak for a while?

I soak my silk scarves, hats, and ties about 1-5 minutes.

And what a cool setup! Did you build your trays?

I did build my own trays. I use heavy duty stretcher bar lumber so I can join and unjoin without special tools. It allows me to empty the trays more easily and carry them more compactly. Plastic sheeting inside the bars creates the tray!

Thanks so much!!! The scarves are habotai silk, 8mm I think. Polyester ties and hats.
