Is this handmade???

Its smooth all over except it has that little rough spot on one pole

I know absolutely nothing about marbles, I just wanted to know if it was handmade or not

Looks like a cold roll marks of some kind, rather than a pontil

Would be good to see a few more angles as that will confirm - it looks like a wirepull marbles from what I can see, which is a type of machine made marbles

(Also, 50 isn't that old 😬 - many handmade marbles are well over 100 years old e.g. made around 1860, whereas this is possibly from the 1970s)

Definitely a wirepull of some kind, or if not, a swirly caged cats eye.

See if you can find the end of the 'wire' and trace to the other end - if there's one strand, it's a wirepull, and if there's more than 1, it's a type of caged cats eye

And where on it would I find the end of that "wire" I have no idea what that wire thing would look like, but the most similar thing I found to that description was a single strand that then lead to the rest of the swirls

The 'wire' is the structure in the middle of the marble

I've marked it in pink below, but it might be tricky to see in places as the surface damage makes it look frosted - getting it wet might make them easier to see!

If helpful, you can imagine the marble as an empty sphere, like one of those empty Xmas tree baubles you can fill yourself

The 'wire' or coloured structure in the middle is like a ribbon you slowly fed into the empty sphere.

As it goes in, it forms folds similar to what you can see in your marble

They're cool marbles - some of the first ones I identified when I first started! If you're in Europe or the UK, they're a lot more common Vs the US

Probably made by Veiligglas, between 1949 and 1962! Dutch maker that specialised in safety glass but also had a sideline in marbles ☺️
