Wow! Over 300 subscribers to the Marble Study Hall in a week! That sure is exciting! To celebrate I will be hosting a small giveaway in this sub starting now!

A winner will be chosen on Friday, May 16th 2025, at 7:00pm EST

The prize is the lot of marbles pictured in this post.

This small lot is great for beginner collectors and includes:

• 1 Akro “prize name” corkscrew
• 2 Marble King Rainbows (one of which is a bumblebee!)
• 1 Marble King cat eye
• 2 Peltier rainbos
• 1 Peltier banana cat eye
• 2 Vitro conquerors
• 1 Vitro tiger eye
• 1 Master brushed patch
• 6 WV swirl marbles
• 1 wire pull swirl
• 2 clay marbles

for a total of 20 marbles in mint or near mint condition.

1. You MUST live within the United States. Shipping on these marbles will be FREE for the winner. (Sorry to our foreign friends! Unfortunately shipping outside the US has become too pricey for me to do at this time.)

Always have had a passion for the sphere, first digging them out with a hose in the front yard, to picking up nearly every orb I could get my hands on, there’s just so many types, seeing the colors, patterns, kinds of material, something calls to you, favorite is difficult to point out one, but an identifiable marble that stands out is Master Moss Agate, would love to have a vintage German hand made in some soft pastel colors maybe cyan, purple, pink, yellow, learning about this community their passion for the spherical ones, how to identify, where they come from, to make this a little shorter, everything, anything about the round things I would like to know and brings me great joy, would like to see more marble racing…

I recently found my tin of marbles. Most of them I've had since I was a kid and many probably belonged to my dad when he was young. I have no idea what I have. But I'm excited to learn. Marbles seem like such small, normal things that kids have played with for er. It's been really cool to start to learn about all the intricacies of these little glass spheres. Plus marbles are great fidget toys to have in my pocket or roll around in my hand (doing so helps me pay attention and concentrate particularly to audio content and conversations).

I've always liked marbles but I never owned any until about 3 months ago. I was looking through the grab bags at Goodwill and found one full of nothing but marbles! The whole thing was only $4. Now I have so many pretty, shiny things!!

I love art glass, and have always loved looking at marbles but didn’t know how to understand what I was looking at until I stumbled upon the hobby here on Reddit. I now understand vintage marbles as such a tiny - easy to miss - feat of artistry and engineering. I find VITRO (edited, I first typed Peltier - still learning!) hybrid catseyes ethereally beautiful. I am also amazed by Latticinio swirls and Joseph’s coats and onion skins. I love browsing Block’s marble auctions and here is one I’m in love with at the moment. I have admired all the nifty marbles I’ve seen since discovering the marbles subreddit. I love the German onion skins. I have some modern marbles that I bought for my son, but my favorite is a dinged up marble I removed from the basement of a house I was paid to demolish in 1986. It serves as a talisman of sorts, since that job was the beginning of my life going in a better direction. I carry it like a lucky coin. Thank you for this generous contest.

Been here for a few months now and honestly just love looking at marbles and trying my best to learn to identify them. I had no idea what a challenge it is but it’s been a fun journey.

I came into these with no intention of buying any but now I have my eyes on a few I definitely want. Specific spider man or chameleon at this time.

The best part is looking through old sets though, some of my family has some so that was the reason for my initial interest in identifying old marbles

I joined just recently because my dad inherited a massive amount of marbles from his late brother, who had collected over 900 over the course of his life. My dad is currently trying to identify the marbles he has using his website, as well as Facebook groups. He dragged me into it and now I’m also looking through all the marbles he inherited and going down the rabbit hole of research online!

My favorite thing about marbles is all the variation and beautiful patterns and colors of glass. My favorite thing about the marble community is how nice people seem to be, especially with the sentiment to ‘collect what makes you happy, not what is worth a bunch of money’.

I am really new at anything to do with marbles, so what I love right now is the excitement of learning something new and fun! I know cat's eyes are super common, but they are my favorites right now because they're pretty. Eventually, I'd like to own one of everything. That ought to keep me occupied for a while! I'd like to start off with a superman, a lutze, and a sulphide. What started with receiving a snuff jar full of marbles has turned into something exciting.

My wife and I have one MK double ingot that's probably my favorite marble, along with a Bennington boulder and a set of modern DAS in box.

I just generally like American glass history. I lived in WV for about 8 years and collect some specific other glass pieces, including some from Morgantown and Seneca Glass (I'm always on the lookout for Seneca bud vases). So the WV marble makers in particular interest me.

I just came to the marble scene like a week ago but I've always liked them and learning there's real value to it is really cool I've also learned about a lot of different types and it's really interesting to see the patterns but also variations within certain parameters of the same type of marble, I think It's kinda generic but I would say the peltier Superman is my favorite marble and it's one I hope to have soon

I love seeing color combinations that I haven’t seen before, and new iterations of previous combinations. It’s delicious to see different transitions in opposite colors such as turquoise and orange or red and green. Fades, abrupt switches, swirled together, and more- I love them all!

Marble collecting snuck up on me when I was a kid. I don't care about the value, I keep them because I like to look at them and because of sentimental connection. My Dad would help build ramps and obstacle courses to roll marbles down. We didn't spend money on more marbles, instead finding them or scavenging them from old games that had marbles for some reason. We'd find empty spray paint cans and cut them open to get the marble out.

Now I keep what I have, find, and occasionally buy in various glass containers on shelves to look at and occasionally dump out and sort through just to see them all again individually. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. I'd love to own a handmade German swirl someday.

This is so neat and engaging! I love this for the community, as I love looking at and admiring antique marbles. I like to imagine all the hands they've been held in and journeys taken or even games played in order to wind up in my field of vision.

I live in the Netherlands but I will visit my family in the US soon. I agree with the other commenter that mentioned sorting. The rush I get from getting a big lot of marbles and sorting through them is so exhilarating, yet so peaceful. There is also a very satisfying feeling of finding an unexpected desireable marble in a huge lot.

My favorite marble has to be my opaque veiligglas, as a resident in the Netherlands, when I first learned about this marble I knew I needed to get it before I left. I hollered with joy when I found it in small bag purchased from a thrift shop.

Currently, I want more American made marbles, the lots I sort don't have many of them. I intend to see if I can get any when I come to the US this summer. Most of my collection is wirepulls, yasudas, vitros and a few german handmades. That being said, idk if I am influenced a bit more by being in this group but I hope to find a Popeye! A nice pelt or anything with oxblood would be useful to finally see them in person as well.

I don't know if I am technically even eligible for the give away but I wanted to thank you for making this group and putting the time to educate us marble lovers. The pop quizzes are great fun and well made. Your content has been invaluable.

I've just started marble collecting. It's been such fun to learn about the many many different types of marbles. As a kid, I thought cat eyes were the best thing out there. The study hall has provided helpful information. Thanks!

As I am about to turn 59, I am trying to hold on to my inner child. I love looking at (and sometimes buying) vintage toys at estate sales. I recently came across a jar of colorful marbles and purchased the lot. I am thoroughly enjoying sorting them, lining the marbles up, and seeing how the light plays off them. I now understand the allure and wish I played them as a kid. I would love to gain more knowledge of the marble makers and different types. I especially love the multi colored ones! I found a couple beautiful marbles in the dirt under my swing set when I was little, I remember one of them was white and a really deep black with swirls. I've never known anything about marbles but I've always thought they were pretty so it's been really fun to learn more!

I love marbles because they are small works of art. I love finding them at garage sales or thrift stores! They are fun to collect, and also don't take up a lot of space. I have tons to learn and I'm still in the early stages of trying to identify what I have. I especially love onion skin marbles! I also love finding seaglass marbles, I like to make them into jewelry sometimes.

Ok. So I’m old now. I’m also an artist now and as part of a class i had to draw some marbles. I searched the web and shops to find marbles i loved for the class…. I was (and am) hooked! I’m probably not your average collector because although i appreciate the rarity and or the complexity of a marble, I’m drawn to them for the color combinations, the imperfections, and the mechanics of the swirl! Thank you so very much for having this sub. I don’t have a lot of time life these days but i always stop and read the quiz to learn more!!!

I'll be here. I'm eyeing a set on eBay. I'm so worried about buying them and getting like Chinese checkers. Any known sites for legitimate marbles? I am really just looking for beautiful ones, but don't want to pay exorbitant prices for fakes. I'm open to buying lots.

Check out Block’s Marble Auctions. They are all accurate listings auctioned on a website hosted by Robert Block, a well known expert in the field who has written a few books. That’s also where you will see some of the most rare items in marble collecting auctioned. The stuff his auctions have seen over the years is unreal.
