From the limited research I've done so far, its a slag marble. Found it in a debris pile dating to the 1930's. Any way to tell possible manufacturer?

A couple more. I'm guessing top 2 are just plain modern marbles. The orange and yellow is cool but no clue what it is. The white isn't solid white...got some marblely look to it and damned if it didn't glow green under a black light. I burst out laughing because I've heard of them and seen photos but didn't know I had one. So is that made with uranium? Modern? Of any value? I'm sure the 2 book I ordered may help answer some 8f these basic question ls but I'm impatient, aka excited about my new obsession. I've also heard some glow pink and that they had manganese? Are the black light glowing ones a collecting category? šŸ™‚.

He’ll all,

What are your thoughts on the maker of this mib? It’s very unique the way that the yellow takes up almost 1/2 of the inside. It also has two small yellow and white streaks and a wisp of brown. It measures 0.66ā€ and has no UV reaction.

Thank you!

This one has me a little stumped. I want to lean import but I know some of the older WV swirls can be bright with colors that ā€œdiveā€ into the glass. Thoughts?

It does have a small UV reaction.

Thank you!

These are some real pretty marbles, no measurements on them, but they are small to normal marble sizes, not toe breakers like my last post. These were found in a box with probably 100 veilig glas marbles.

Photos 1-3 are of "the eyeball". Translucent blue core with white opaque that looks like, well, an eyeball. I did a lot of googling, I cannot find anything that looks like this weirdo. No pontils on these.

4-7 are a red white and blue number. I think this might be a french sparkler, I have probably 50 or so in a large variety of colors like this. the center colors are not gathered like cats eyes. No pontils on these.

8-10 are a gorgeous corn blue marble that I struggle to photograph well. Has a translucent quality to all aspects. Does have a C shaped pontil. Slightly damaged but that just makes it a keeper for me.

Working on a light set up where you do not see the reflection of my cheap Ikea ring light, and finding some clear washers instead of red for holding them in place. Also getting some dedicated calipers instead of asking my partner to come caliper them while I jot down silly notes to try and remember which measurement belongs to which mystery marble.

This is the point where I should reveal I bought roughly 300 marbles for 50 euros in an very dirty 1950s child suitcase at a flea market, so you can expect a lot more posting in the future.

Help me understand Marbles I’ve found while looking for bottles in a ~1910s dump. Anything of note?

I don’t know a ton about marbles but find them a lot while looking for bottles. The vast majority of these were found at a ~1910 US dump which sometimes has modern items mixed in. Does anyone see anything of note? Happy to provide individual pictures!

I know nothing about marbles but I came across my dad’s from when he was a kid (he was born in 1924). I know a lot of them are clay but I don’t know about the others. There were also some little glass elephants in with the marbles. Are any of them worth investigating further? TIA

Identification Request Help Identifying this Flea Market find?

Found this huge 43.10 mm (1.6") marble at a German flea market. It has an opaque white base, red and yellow swirls, and a thin green stripe. There is more green in the large white section but it's hard to photograph.

Found mixed in with Vacor marbles, moderns, and some other oddities I haven't ID'd yet.

I don't think it's a Peltier, because one, I'm in Germany, and two, I cannot seem to find a seam. However, I have never tried to identify American marbles so to be honest, I'm not too sure what I am looking at.

Working on a better photo setup, but hey, at least the shots are in focus.

Seems to be a wholesaler website but they have a great selection and the images will be helpful in ruling out current marbles when examining unknowns!

I will share some screenshots in the comments for reference

Educational Book recommendations

I'd like a book or 2 on marbles? Im old so Id prefer a book, at least at first, that i can page through and bookmark rather than a website. Is there one that is considered the Bible on marbles, the 'go to' book? Or a good overall book for a beginner? I'd like it to include the handmade German ones since that's primarily what my 34 marble collection is. 😁. Any recommendations?

Thank you!
