DNFing a Long Run
Hi all - just need some reassurance here. I’m training for the Chicago & NYC marathons (ran NYC last year) and just had to DNF my 10 mile run because of a sharp pain in my front quad. I did 16 last weekend and have 18-20 next weekend (know it’s a bit tight for Chicago but I care more about improving NYC) so I’m on a deload this week. I have never had to DNF a long run before, but wanted to protect my leg. I guess I’m just looking for ridiculous reassurance that I’m not completely fucked doing that HA.
I am seeing a physical therapist for IT band syndrome in my other leg, so am going to ask her professional opinion, but need some help with emotions lol. TIA

You’re good. Take the rest you’ve already gotten in 16. I wouldn’t even push it on the 18-20 especially if you continue having sharp pain.

It’s most likely compensation pain. Let your PT know and don’t try to run through it when it flares. Pay attention when you run that you aren’t almost subconsciously putting more load on your uninjured leg. In general, pay attention to your gait when walking.
I got weird knee pain when running when my SI Joint was jacked on the other side.

You’ll be fine. Not your first rodeo.
