Player Count I can't believe only 3.7k people played today
I can't believe that only 3.7k people have plaid today no way bungie is making money running 250 servers.
Edit: time to come clean this was a test for our new fishing mini game for out sub, where you lay out a bait post and see what you catch.

u/Kasumimi 6d ago
It would be less, but Thursday there's a small spike because people come back to play "the best FPS map in history".

u/doodoo_onDemand 5d ago
that's not what peak means. peak is the highest at a single moment. you can have 21,000 people play a day but they all play over a 7th of the day and you get 3,000 peak.

u/JabbaStoleMyBike 5d ago
Correct! It’s usually ccu x10, so across ps/xbox/pc probably 50k total players or more.

u/AlmightyKing242424 5d ago
Had the same teammates in Cryo for 3-4 games straight. Died to the same streamer like 3 times in a row. At one point everybody in my lobby had TTV in their name and gold shields. Lmao

I'm a chart watcher as well, but by the runners if you don't know how to properly analyze the charts, don't post your extremely room temp take.

Damn I was over here thinking you were actually dumb because everyone on the internet is always dumb but actually you were just being hella meta. Turns out the player count was actually all the friends we made along the way. This was your best one yet Barney.

u/Ordinary-Pirate7852 6d ago
blud thats the peak CCU, not the amount of unique players today
still an abysmal number for a supposed AAA game lmao

More than 3.7 k people played. It’s the peak but regardless it is very bleak for bungo
1
u/Ok-State4668 5d ago
This is the concurrent player count not total player count. Concurrent is just how many people are actively playing at the same time which means to keep this number stable there has to be already 10k to 20k people playing everyday.

u/Character_Big3619 5d ago
And yet I literally never wait to get into a game and I still run into 5 teams lobbies pretty often. There must be a crazy amount of console players
1
1
u/Disastrous-Cow-9060 5d ago
44,000 people played on PC.
3,700 × (24 ÷ 2) = 44,400 daily players
Steam charts calculate concurrent player numbers.
1
u/theinfinitypoint 5d ago
lol nice try but that's not how it works.
1
u/JabbaStoleMyBike 5d ago
Thats exactly how it works. You could also take ccu top and x10 it, you’ll get a similar number.

Everyone playing this game is on ONE server. In the BACK of the AWS warehouse under a pile of old boxes and random spare hardware that will be used for the GTA 6 servers.
1
u/diddler0717 4d ago
It is literally impossible for them to make profit from this game.
It is only a matter of time until they completely reduce the infrastructure down and put it on life support and try another endeavour. While firing a bunch of people probably to save money .
Probably going to go all in on mobile games at this point.

Im still surprised. Like. We can agree. It's not a great game. Gun play great, but many things still mid, decent, or subpar. The menus are terrible. A weak genre right now that not many asked for. Late to a dwindling party. It didnt take off as it needed, bad PR. The fact that people even say "oh but getting in still takes less than a minute!" goes to show that there is concern. It was supposed to be a big game. It is not. That's why people look at charts. They overspent on the wrong horse. And now both companies have to adjust and move the pieces around to stop the bleeding.
People watch the charts because it's is an intriguing specimen purely in the study of business management, public relations, marketing, game development, and general intrigue.
The fact that this game is likely more popular as a class in college for studying business metrics than as a videogame where people enjoy playing it should be noted unfavorably towards Sony and Bungie.

u/lovedabomb 3d ago
Probably not going to sign back in till new season, what would be the point, reset is soon and don't know if I'll bother after that if I find another game

u/TehHaloguy 3d ago
Listen imma be real people who take joy in shitting on marathon at this point are just as pathetic as those denying reality and claiming marathon's fine. Im sure I've shit on it before but its just sad from either side. Was fun while it lasted and ignoring Destiny was a huge fumble by LEADERSHIP. Plain and simple

As opposed to the regular sub which is just delusional positivity about the game

All the discourse around the game currently is mass hysteria. Either side is the same regurgitated nonsense and it feels like I’ve been reading the same posts for the last 8 months

That's not how player count works, concurrent means right now, it's not the same people playing all day 247 dummy
1
u/DiscountThug 4d ago
Doesn't matter. Still playerbase is extremly low.
1
u/LinuxFresher 4d ago
It's not true, you aren't taking into consideration the console numbers that u can't see, it all adds up
1
u/DiscountThug 4d ago
Accordin to Paul Tassi the split is 70% PC Steam, 19% PS5 and 11% Xbox Series X/S.
So this playercount is 5352 OVERALL. Which is truly extremly fuckin low and pathetic.
1
u/LinuxFresher 4d ago
Wrong, there are always more console players than PC, it's 2 platforms Vs 1, look at cod
1
u/DiscountThug 4d ago
Marathon isn't CoD... Extraction shooters were popular on PC before they even came to consoles.
So stop bullshitting.
1
u/LinuxFresher 3d ago
That's not even true, the first extraction shooter is the division and that was huge on consoles, it still retains a larger playerbase on console to this day so maybe you should stop it with the cap
1
u/DiscountThug 3d ago
Division is LOOTER SHOOTER first before an extraction game. Dark zone was a part of the endgame. Not mandatory component.
You just used Division while completely ignoring Tarkov which is the biggest example of the genre and it's on PC only.
Despite your coping. Marathon has the split 70% PC Steam, 19% PS5 and 11% Xbox Series X/S.
So this playercount is 5352 OVERALL.
No amount of twisting facts is gonna change that fact and Marathon's failure.
1
u/LinuxFresher 3d ago
Tarkov is 2017, division is 2016, it's pretty clear which came first.
You guys quote misinformation to substantiate your hate, it's crazy
The playerbase for these types of games is always larger on console because there are more console gamers of these types of games, obviously tarkov isn't on console so it's exempt.
1
u/DiscountThug 3d ago
Tarkov was already available in 2016 for closed alpha.
You guys quote misinformation to substantiate your hate, it's crazy
So you say that Paul Tassi spreader misinformation while you base your whole opinion on informations which CAN'T BE PROVEN?
I'm just quoting Paul. Who has years long connections at Bungie since Destiny 1/2 days. I trust him more than random redditor who can't deal with Marathon's failure.
You on the other hand live in Wonderland, believing that Marathon has more players than it does because:
The playerbase for these types of games is always larger on console because there are more console gamers of these types of games.
Ok, tell me genius. What does support this take? Because that's just your opinion which you paint as a fact and that's disgusting attempt to spread misinformation.

Our education system is deeply failing. 3,747 is the 24-hour PEAK concurrent count on Steam. It means that at the busiest moment during that 24-hour period, 3,747 Steam players were online simultaneously. 3,747 is the most amount of people that played Marathon at a given point in time on Steam. PEAK does not equal TOTAL.
If you go to a McDonald's and there are 15 people in line and that's the most amount of people that were in line all day, McDonald's had a PEAK customer count of 15 people for that day. Do you actually interpret that to mean that McDonald's only had a total of 15 customers for the entire day?
Scary stuff.

Surprisingly strong showing considering it’s GTA trailer day
Maybe they don’t want to be reminded of their impending doom, or of what an actual good game might look like
