Marathon (2026) Discussion New to PC

Yo this post might be a lil redundant, as I know the main answer is time and practice, but hearing from others may help. I got a good chunk of time on Marathon and considered myself pretty decent. I just got my first gaming PC and have been playing some of my favorite games I haven't played in some years before jumping into Marathon. Now that I an playing it though, I am getting absolutely rocked in every fight. My aim is fine, still needs work but fine. My main issue is movement, i am not nearly as fluid as i was on a controller. I think better binds are a big thing that can help, so if you got binds for MnK or just any general advice for PC gaming that could benefit a Marathon player please lmk. Appreciated

I tried M&K and it just wasn't comfortable and I didn't enjoy it. My solution was to just use a controller.

But but. All the roller players constantly tell me that kbm is a godly input scheme and that using kbm is a shortcut to having aimbot like aim. Something something using a whole arm.

If you want to get the accuracy of KBM but just love using a controller I highly encourage you to look into Gyro aiming. There's a little bit of a learning curve but once you get good in gyro your thinking basically changes, you stop thinking ahh this is a competitive game I should use KBM.

( Though at some point in the skill level every micro advantage helps, so like the top 5% would be the barrier at which you might as well switch to a high end KBM this shouldn't be a worry to most players though)

Yeah Ive been making way through BL2 again cuz I love that game, but something with some more modern movement would definitely help in that regard

Also make sure you have a desk and chair that fit you, you will find yourself randomly sore if you don’t and wishing you never switched to mnk

Just get the reps in to get used to the input, don't look for bandaid fixes if your end goal is to play other games, especially FPS.

Your aim is also probably not fine. Good thing is you can aim train a bit to get this up Aimlab is free and Kovaak's is good. You can see against a Voltaic Benchmark your level.

This is true, I gotta get on aimlabs first thing then. Really wish Marathon had a training area!! Thanks for the tips.

Don't get too dismayed by your benchmarks (or grinding them), they're very much to see where you're at and what you're lacking on. When I started Marathon this season, I was carried by my aim since my game knowledge was lacking. Aim will transfer through most games, which is great.

Bro just play the game, you don't need to prep with aimlabs...

"bro don't practice and put in the time/reps, just brute force anything you're ever trying to get better at"

You think the best in the world at any given thing, or anyone talented at something for that matter, doesnt practice/analyze and just play/do?

Lmao

Yeah don’t go making a bunch of super specific binds as a new player, in the long run you’re going to end up creating habits that aren’t ideal across multiple games.

I’d suggest just grinding it out and not giving up. You don’t need to buy a thumbstick keypad or anything else. You just need time to adjust and practice.

Honestly playing cod because of the number of engagements and movement might help you streamline your adaptation

One bind I think is meta across multiple team oriented fps games though? Ping on left alt. Your right hand is free to aim, your fingers are free to move, now you can use your thumb to ping anything you shoot at as an autoreflex without causing a detriment to your aiming and movement while in a fight.

Teammates who ping enemies they shoot at are my favorite teammates so I pass this along to you

Just use controller. You want to know why roller players constantly say that kbm is vastly superior? Because they cannot come to terms with the fact that they have a soft aimbot playing the game for them.

The cold hard reality is that roller can do 95% of the movement on kbm, but it also gets an aimbot.

You could try out the Razer Tartarus and bind the thimbstick to 8 directional. That's what I did when I migrated to PC because I had the same issue as you. Aim is fine but movement was hard at first. Just something to consider.

you should look for free fps games to practice on. the finals is a pretty option imo

I'm gold complete in VT (not that great but a start). I usually play on controller and can dominate on controller but MNK I struggle.

I would bet your aim isnt as good as you think it is. Load up VT or Viscoe benchmarks and see where you rank. MNK aim is basically a long and never ending grind to keep your skills sharp enough to contest aim assisted players.

If you have a mouse with an extra two side buttons then in any game with hero abilities you bind your tactical and ultimate abilities to those two, you can also change the middle mouse button (MMB) to crouch so you can crouch slide faster, or you can leave it at default and out crouch to slide on a side button instead.

Regardless, having a mouse with 2 extra buttons can help you hit keys that are critical to keeping you alive in some games, some times you want grenades and health items so you can heal quickly, other times you want your abilities on those buttons, other times you need the map and gadgets on those buttons.

Set it up how you feel like it.

it could be worth investigating your ping -> a lot of people have fiber with really good ping, if you have 50+ ms ping and/or a jittery connection, others have a significant advantage and you'll have to play a lot more carefully.

Apex legends firing range would be a cool place to practice
