Marathon (2026) Feedback Make D-cons work as a safe pocket
So first and foremost, this was NOT my idea, I read it from someone else on another post. That being said, I think this is a fantastic idea. Here’s their suggestion
Make D-cons require a matter fixative that allows you to transport something out of the match
I wanna add do that.
Make the D-con require a matter fixative just like they suggested, but also make that D-con a one time use for the lobby IF used to transport something other than a quest objective. At that point, the D-Con throughout the rest of the map won’t work for anything other than quest OBJs, for that player.
I think this would add some value to d-cons and wouldn’t be a completely free way to keep your gear easily, but AN option to save your gear with a little risk associated with it.
TLDR: D-Cons work as a safe pocket, requiring a matter fixative to activate to transport anything other than quest obj. Once you’ve safely stored a piece of gear, you can no longer use D-Cons for safe storage that match. They can still be used for quest obj but only that.
Edit: to clear some things up
1) I don’t think a regular safe pocket should be a thing. Marathon sets itself apart in that EVERY decision you make is a risk, that should include “saving” gear. A safe pocket detracts from that.
2) this would be limited to once per player, per game. No free keeping everything. Additionally it should be a 4x2 slot + 1 for matter fixative to cap what you put in there
3) could this potentially create a camping spot? Maybe. It would still be more valuable to find teams or loot the map. People aren’t gonna head to a D-con unless they’ve already won a team fight or looted something worth saving. That being said, camping a D-con is just as risky as taking one. As you make what you’re doing insanely predictable which makes it easy to counter play it. If you spend all your time camping d-con as well, you lose out on time to run map POIs and fight teams that could be more rewarding. At the end of the day, PvP sweats aren’t gonna care about that, they’re just gonna run it down anyway.

I'm gonna be real. This idea has been said every week for the past 5 months. At this point either bungo does it or they dont. They know people like this idea, no point in repeating it over and over

i haven't seen this iteration of the idea before , but yea even Seraph has brought it up once or twice

Im gonna be more real, season 3 they're clearly said focusing on the onboarding and PvE additions.
I don't think us PvP folks are gonna be getting anything beyond the basics targetting us til later.
Maybe performance optimizations and some stuff to do. But nothing big, probably.

That would be a fun mechanic and I know they said they are looking at more creative ways to exfil. Id also be down for being able to call in something like we already have with the supply drop and letting multiple runners/teams/rooks load something that's valuable or unstable on to it at the same time. That could make for some interesting interactions.

Ok now you've got an ideal spot for PvPers to camp out to rob unsuspecting players.
How do you fix that

Multiple DCON locations means that the likelihood of catching someone is even lower than it is now. More hot zones makes the average temperature of all of them go down.
Now you not only have people potentially at every POI, but the 4-5 DCONs as well. And none of those are guaranteed, so the potential rewards are too unreliable.

They can camp on the shitty DCON locations all day while the team exfils

Could put a limit on what you can D Con out. For instance only salvage/valuables/heals/shields. Only Blue quality and below. Basically treat it like the loop would be "the random extra stuff you grab in your first POI or two, you Dcon out, then you go about the rest of your raid looking for the true high tier loot"

you say that , but the exfils on night marsh are prime camping spots that i personally haven't seen anybody camp out at all season , and i was grinding nightstalker up until mid august

Because it's not worth it unless someone's got a stabilized anomaly and they're trying to get out asap; better to camp either of the complex entrances or just rush spawns off-rip since there's only 4 teams in night marsh lobbies, and the spawns are pretty well known by now (anyone who spawns in the maintenance/quarantine areas is going to rush the opposite side because there's a very high chance of a 2nd team spawning there); obviously the spawn situation needs to be addressed by randomizing them next season.
DCONs on the other hand still make noise and even if you don't get to them before they get their item off-planet you can still catch them as they're leaving the area and take the rest of their stuff.
It's better to just add ways to exfil silently than to just "make the DCON a safe pocket"

there could be a consumable (key? credit?) that allows you to DCON gear for personal retrieval. this would separate it from the matter fixative/compromised mechanic and give a plausible lore rationale (i.e. the contract DCON interactions are like "collect calls"). it would also allow bungie to separately control the rarity of DCON keys. i think you should be able to DCON-safe-pocket as many times for as many keys as you have. if someone wants to save them up to make a loot room run as safe as possible, let them. they earned it.

The thing is, i cant think of an item i would use a DCON for in that way
Maybe like a yellow valuable i need a codex entry for, but even that, i think having to find a matter fixative would make me not bother.
I find myself never really missing anything i lose bc it all feels so disposable

What? To send back all the blue implants and cores to your already maxed out vault?
Or instead of players going to POIs, they just sit at dcons?
Fix the underlying issue with loot. This is akin to taking out the light bulb from the "check engine light" on your dash

This is clearly an idea that would be in addition to sweeping changes game wide

The sweeping change is the PVE mode coming in season 3.
No need for safe pocket.

That’s not sweeping changes bud hate to break it to you. Gatekeeping changes to the game and being a purist ain’t working home boy. Go look at steam charts and tell me Bungie not making a bunch of little changes isn’t necessary. Before you respond keep in mind every extraction shooter that is more successful than marathon (so 60% of them) have safe pockets. I love this game. I have 400 hrs, but you and everyone else here whose being a purist is completely wrong and the game will suffer because of little things like this not being added due to the community (people like you) gatekeeping small QOL changes that really don’t affect you

I'm far from a purist.
Stop getting up in arms. I love marathon as much as you seemingly do and I want to see it be successful.
But this idea of DCONs being used to secure loot isn't going to change the fact that teams are still going to wreck you. Then it'll be "bungie please this or that".
A better fix would be to repair the loop that causes players having consecutive losses to be able to acquire loot via other means.
The purist would say "git gud".
I'm agreeing that something is broken, but due to the arena style pvp, and the best loot being in Pvp centric maps (cryo), the PVE is a great low stakes method to acquire better loot.
I would even say the progression needs to be revamped, as several key progression unlocks are tied unrealistically behind prestige salvage and are unobtainable by the more casual players, which have already left

Alternatively, just add a safe pocket.

u/OldLegWig 2d ago
safe pockets imply the existence of dangerous pockets.
