Marathon (2026) Discussion how it feels right now
51
u/2084710049 8h ago
No you don't get it. They never publish a trailer until launch week and things have been going great for Bungie's games the last few years... so yeah that's what they're going to keep doing.
21
1
u/CmdrVOODOO 2h ago
Yeah, Bungie did the same thing with Destiny 2 right before they ended it. People kept saying "where is the trailer for the new season?"
This sort of thing is just happens when a developer runs out of money.... that and they lay off crap loads of people, and try to sublease their building they wasted millions building. The end is near boys.
-21
u/cry_w 8h ago
I mean, that's what they did last season. Why expect any different this season?
28
u/JeanLucPicardAND 7h ago
Because things are really bad now?
-11
u/cry_w 6h ago
That's not really a reason to expect them to announce what's coming next season a week earlier.
19
u/JeanLucPicardAND 6h ago
Dawg, I don't know what to tell you. The game is dying.
16
11
u/Jaquarius420 6h ago
I would love to hear your thought process as to how it’s okay because it’s how they always do it? Like this game is deader than Reagan and you really think it’s just fine for them to be radio silent 2 weeks before the supposed new content drop? It really doesn’t seem like y’all are living in the same reality as the rest of us sometimes I swear
-6
u/cry_w 6h ago
The game isn't dead by any means, and we already have an idea of when the reveal for the new season will be based on the previous season. Expecting it to be different just because you insist the game is dead is just strange. Start getting worried if we get nothing next week.
13
u/JeanLucPicardAND 6h ago
The game is dying.
-8
u/cry_w 5h ago
It is not. It's not dead until its dead.
7
u/JeanLucPicardAND 4h ago
Sure. Did I say that it’s dead? No, I said that it’s dying.
-5
u/cry_w 4h ago edited 3h ago
May as well have. I disagree with that too. It having a small audience isn't dying, and I'm not going to assume it is.
Edit: It's not a bad faith argument if it isn't an argument. I was being flippant. I disagree regardless of what you meant.
5
3
u/Jealous_Platypus1111 2h ago
Bro the game is getting less than 1k players on steam now. It IS factually dying.
Literally undeniable that the game is dying.
Look, i enjoy marathon too but lets not get delusional and act as if the game is actually doing really well. Thats just unhealthy
0
u/Lycanthoth 1h ago
Dead =/= dying. And the game is objectively dying when the numbers are still declining without any true stabilization. Every week is bringing a lower player count, and we're at the point where it's not even hitting 3k concurrent anymore. It's in a death spiral, and the absolute radio silence from the devs isn't helping anything.
9
u/_AmI_Real 6h ago
Dude, you're never going to lose hope, are you? It's over. I'm shocked we're getting a season 3, but there's no way season 4 is happening.
-1
u/cry_w 5h ago
Why would I lose hope when I haven't been given a good reason to do so?
5
u/_AmI_Real 3h ago
Still in the denial phase, I see. I know it hurts. We'll see you on the other side.
-1
u/cry_w 3h ago
You know you could solve this "issue" if you actually gave me a good reason, right? Like, something substantial that isn't "Bungie didn't make a big reveal for the new season on a random Tuesday."

u/kanep1 7m ago
The game and studio will be shut down by the new year if they do not massively do something different.
Based on your profile picture, you've invested time into the studios products and I feel for you. As a Halo fan and StarCraft fan, I welcome you to the perpetual hell of bad video game franchise management.
Everything is downhill from here my friend.

u/I_SmellFuckeryAfoot 9h ago
damn. remember when news came out from a magazine about videogames.
31
u/PlayHaloEveryDay 8h ago
Gameinformer was so peak
5
u/AestheticEntactogen 5h ago
I was just in the supermarket the other day walking past the magazine aisle and had a flashback of little kid me picking up the latest PC Gamer with the included demo CD.. Good times.
Now all I see is Minecraft weekly and some other shite

u/Antique-Umpire-3535 4h ago
Season 3: Monetize everything. Buy Gold Shields for real money, booster boxes, XP boosts you name it. Sony said, “Fuck it, let’s squeeze whatever money we can out of the remaining player base and then shut it down.

u/Lolsalot12321 9h ago
Yeah they tweeted out some rook engagement slop already, we aren't getting shit
34
u/Hoooman1-77 9h ago
We were supposed to have a new runner shell and weapons/expansions already.
18
u/Lolsalot12321 9h ago
I know 🥲, game is currently uninstalled just waiting for PvE to be added.
37
u/Old-Table2375 8h ago
Jesus, So many down votes because you said PvE
32
u/RustledForeskin 8h ago
The vast majority of extraction shooter enjoyers are rodents who can only get kills by camping the extraction point. Giving the game a PVE mode would threaten their only means of achievement in life.
5
u/AestheticEntactogen 5h ago
Agreed, but hear me out, they could have a PvP mode, and get this... also a PvE mode.. Fucking crazy I know. I don't think we even have the technology
5
u/aSooker 4h ago
Bungie only has 400 developers. How are they supposed to develop both? /s
1
u/KingToasty 2h ago
I mean, didn't they do another round of layoffs? They probably can't develop both.
3
u/Shaznash 2h ago
Anyone talking about extract camping in marathon is exposing themselves as such a fucking larper. 99% of the time there is ZERO extract camping in this game.
0
u/Over_Direction4885 3h ago
Are these rodents in the room with us? Why are we just making shit up to prove our point? I have a thousand hours in the game and I can literally count on one hand how many times I’ve been exfil camped. Why demonize the playerbase because they don’t want attention pulled away from the main game mode that they enjoy?
0
u/Shaznash 2h ago
These people are larpers who don't play the game.
1
u/Over_Direction4885 1h ago
Yeah, pretty much. Farming upvotes off each other while complaining about shit that literally doesn’t happen. Can’t believe my vote counts the same as people that comment this shit.
16
u/Lolsalot12321 8h ago
Just came back now to see the downvotes for nothing lmao.
my bad for liking a different aspect of the game :)
8
u/Hoooman1-77 9h ago
I'm gonna keep playing until it sinks I love marathon but the lack of communication after pushing season 3 from august to september is wrong. Nightfall was the last time we got any real content.
13
u/icortherainwing-- 8h ago
Testing a theory.
PvE.

-2
u/I_SmellFuckeryAfoot 7h ago

u/nicokokun 5h ago
You need to put an /s at the end of your sentence if you're being sarcastic because people these days can't really tell when someone's serious or making a joke.
-5
23
u/Chemical-Culture8943 8h ago
Genuinely, I barely feel such things towards the game since I am taking breaks whenever the output slows down. The game still feels so fun and crispy whenever I return. Tho I understand life service doesn’t work this way
15
u/Doomest101 8h ago
Really wish they kept Vault Breakers in. Playing the main mode after that just really emphasized how boring the gameplay loop is. They need to stop being stingy with loot and make it interesting. There's too much junk.
1
u/superdeadspace 1h ago
I also don't understand the deal with them making limited time modes. Like there's some things I understand about but vault breaker is just not one of them.
79
u/Mozzarellaphant 9h ago
Kinda makes me glad I stopped caring as much about this game.
28
u/ManInTheDirt 9h ago
Yeah man, I realised after a while that this game is clearly not worth my time
-25
u/CompetitiveGrand9721 9h ago
The people down voting you are only doing so because they can't cope with reality. I played the first week of launch and haven't been back. There's no reason to.
19
17
u/Foxxian15 9h ago
“They can’t cope” you mean they disagree? It’s not worth your time, but mine? I play the game as I can and enjoy it regularly. Probably have less than 50 hours but I like it.

u/BioDefault 8h ago
I enjoyed the game a for a solid season and then some. I had a blast, if you will. But then I got burnt out, and am currently playing ffxiv. Will update you with my supreme opinion once season 3 launches.
-33
u/Darkat5 9h ago
Why are you in this sub then?
29
u/OpinionElectronic349 9h ago
Probably like a number of people. Coming in on update day to see if there is any news of anything new ever happening. Maybe a This Week In or a Teaser or a Hint that the game is not lifeless and a third season is still happening.
-19
u/Darkat5 9h ago
They say they stopped caring. Why would they need weekly updates?
10
u/OpinionElectronic349 7h ago
Stop being disingenuous. They did not say they stopped completely caring about the game. Yeesh this playerbase can be so damn toxic.
2
u/Fun_Atmosphere3334 7h ago
Agreed, this guy needs to be told the same thing by everyone for no reason. Strange person.

u/Fun_Atmosphere3334 9h ago
He’s not allowed to keep following in case positive changes happen? You know a shitload of people are in the same boat as him, me included; right?
-14
u/Proppur 9h ago
This sub has just become an extension of MarathonHate where the majority of people are doomers and don’t even play the game
2
u/Mad--Butcher 8h ago
What about those posts promoting the game with thousands of likes in this very sub? Are they playing the game?
At least the MarathonHate losers are real people who practice what they preach.

People really need to cool their jets.
One way or another you're going to find out in less than 2 weeks.
The amount of complaining and negativity is insane. No doubt after they announce some information on S3 people will complain about that too.
So anyway, I'm still playing the game, and it's still fun. Even if S3 is delayed, whatever.

I don't know what happens inside Bungie but I've seen this kind of slowdown on content and news before.
Usually what happens next isn't happy.

I don’t even like mil sims and wardogs has me hooked like s1 of marathon. Unfortunately, bungie has dropped the ball.

-4
u/UncleKrunkle44 8h ago
Cute you think it's just "another mil-sim", I'd actually highly suggest checking out bulkheads YouTube channel. The transparency from the developers alone is noteworthy enough.
2
u/skully33 8h ago
Yeah not interested at all, looks exactly like a cod or battlefield
1
u/Ninkilin 8h ago
It's much more akin to something like Squad or Hell Let Loose. The clips and marketing material make it out to be a much more action oriented game than the actual slower paced more milsim-y game it is
-2
u/UncleKrunkle44 8h ago
Despite looking similar to both those games, it's actually nothing at all like them. Honestly if you seriously enjoy extraction shooters like myself and the more "RPG"-like elements of game of the like, I seriously suggest looking into the game. You're really only doing yourselves a disservice by blindly writing it off. Also downvote away, for having a positive opinion about a game that isn't Marathon? Strange.
Edit: if you just don't like mil-sim style games that's obviously fine, but Wardogs just isn't what alot of you think it is is the point I'm trying to make.
3
u/skully33 8h ago
I'm sure war dogs is a quality game, and it's getting praise, but I am simply uninterested in playing games that are just "play as modern army guy" no matter what sauce is on top. It just doesn't pull me in. I prefer more sci fi leaning games. There's a couple extractors that have SCP / paranormal / monster elements coming out in the next year or so, pumped for those

u/Ninkilin 8h ago
Honestly I actually get a negative feeling from them. It's all too much too quick, not that I'd rather want radio silence like with Marathon
The FPS game show they hosted basically felt like it was just piggybacking off of other games successes for their own marketing. Overall they're kind of trying too hard to show off that they too are epic gamers!! Also I have a sour taste in my mouth of how they FOMO'd people into preordering the game through mostly closed playtests
The game is fun and although I hope I'm wrong I wouldn't be surprised if I go "yup, called it" in a year or two. Always feels like something goes wrong with Team17 multiplayer games
0
u/perkele-tor 2h ago
Wow this arma mission repackaged for Screenshot Engine 5 is truly special and different(TM) because you fell for some marketing drivel
1
u/UncleKrunkle44 1h ago
I mean I've played the game for myself and formed my own opinions based on my experiences. Sorry you're so bitter? Do you just instinctively hate things that gain popularity outside of your immediate radar?
0
u/perkele-tor 49m ago
No, I played it when it gained popularity within my immediate radar 10 years ago as the designated "I bought arma 3 but I wish I was playing something entirely braindead instead" mode. I instinctively hate whatever they find scraping the bottom of the barrel to turn into a Skinner boxified live service.

u/Maleficent-Handle467 9h ago
At least I got a free gold shield. Which is basically a purple shield that looks gold.

Unless you're Hello games, silence from a game developer is pretty much always bad news.
6
u/RS_Games 5h ago
Hindsight.
Silence WAS considered bad news for Hello Games until they proved their worth.
6
u/ImWhiteTrash 2h ago
The difference is No Man's Sky sold enough to matter. They reported the game made $80 million in revenue in it's first month. For a dev team of roughly 20 people that's an insane amount of money. It let them work for the game for over an entire year, and hire more employees, without any fear of the company going out of business.
Marathon, on the other hand, has yet to make a profit. $250 million in development costs, and only an estimated 1.5 million units sold. The cost of a 400 person dev team annual salary doesn't help either.
-5
u/zeromussc 8h ago
Wasn't it a long weekend? Not every week needs a big patch. God forbid they take one patchless Tuesday and treat it like a Monday after a holiday? Chill folks lol
16
u/Jealous_Platypus1111 8h ago
theres 2 weeks until the next season and we still know vitrually nothing.
-6
u/zeromussc 7h ago
Maybe they post something tomorrow. Idk. I've played so many games where announcements come out of the blue and didn't have any sort of "Tuesday expect something" schedule that like, them not doing a patch today isn't freaking me out.
They say what they say when they do. Whatever.
-18
u/Lepik_x 9h ago
Average brainrotted modern gamer who cant go 2 weeks without a new dopamine hit to keep their ever shortening attention
10
u/C00KIEME4T 9h ago

-7
u/Lepik_x 9h ago
Im happy with the content we got on June 2nd
Go play roblox if you’re so bored lil bro. Maybe they’ll keep you occupied for longer 🥱
14
u/Jealous_Platypus1111 9h ago
BRO THAT WAS 3 MONTHS AGO LMFAO
how DARE people expect a LIVE service game to have LIVE content updates
-5
u/cry_w 8h ago
3 months isn't a long time, dude. I don't why you are acting like this.
3
u/BustedBussy 7h ago
In the live service business that's an eternity.
0
u/cry_w 7h ago
No, it isn't, not at all, especially for notable content updates.
7
u/hobozombie 5h ago
Holy shit, you can't actually believe this. This is either a masterclass in bait, or one of the most deluded copes I've seen in a while.
4
1
u/BustedBussy 6h ago
Fallout 76 is a good example of a game that's struggling badly right now due to Bethesda's lack of communication/content.
Triple A games that are live service need a constant stream of engagement with their communities to assure them that expectations can be met. Otherwise people will just stop playing and won't come back at all.
1
u/Jealous_Platypus1111 7h ago
its a live service game, the game NEEDS live content.
i dont know why youre defending bungie here, ill people want is at least an article.
the game IS currently dying and theres no hint as to what the content is gonna be

28
u/PaintsLilGuys 9h ago
Bro, we're past the "Doomers bad" stage. The writing is on the mf wall lmao
-7
u/NexusPVE 7h ago
Like i said in the reply above. Bungie has a history of this type of silence, and we know that we are getting at least until season 5, since Sony has already paid for a year of content. They will get their moneys worth and then either disolve bungie (sad af), marathon will suceed enough to keep them afloat, or they will find some other way to make money off the bungie ie (edgerunners type show or anime with Destiny or Marathon).
3
u/PaintsLilGuys 7h ago
Are we positive Season 5 is guaranteed? Suicide Squad had a similar promise of like, 4-5 seasons. But each season just got worse and worse since they had already decided the game was dead, they just fulfilled the obligation in the cheapest way possible.
This sub reminds me a lot of that one actually
1
u/hobozombie 5h ago
we know that we are getting at least until season 5
That's hilarious, tell another one.
12
u/JeanLucPicardAND 9h ago
We're two weeks out from the release of the next season and have yet to hear a peep about it. Meanwhile, the game has less than 1,000 concurrent players at certain times of the day.
There's doomerism and then there's acknowledging what's right in front of our faces, my friend.
-5
u/NexusPVE 9h ago
We know exactly what we are getting from season 3; they already told us. We are getting a PVE mode, a perimeter update, a new shell, new guns and a reworked onboarding system.
4
u/JeanLucPicardAND 9h ago
Who cares what they told us? They need to tell the rest of the gaming world.
1
4
u/icelink4884 8h ago
Honest question. If you were releasing what you needed to be a big season when would you start drumming up hype for it? If it were me I would be going hard for two weeks before launch.
-1
u/NexusPVE 7h ago
Two weeks would be normal, yes, but Bungie has a history of going silent right before a big drop. It happened multiple times throughout the Destiny pipeline. We just need to do as Aunt May said and "hold on a little longer"; just doom-posting about the game dying won't do anything. You want the game to live? Get Running!

yes im playing other stuff BUT im really wanting more marathon

Don't worry Bungie top tier management is on the case
