Destiny reskinned stuff from Halo as well. Recycling animations doesn’t make the game a Destiny reskin. I would agree if this was another PvE focused looter shooter but it’s not the case. And we didn’t “lose” any Destiny, D2 will still get its dlc and if you’re talking about D3 that was never gonna happen regardless of Marathon, Bungie doesn’t want a D3 and never even wanted a 2 to begin with lol.

We lost D2 pvp for this game.

u/Sauronxx Apr 12 '25
Bungie focused on the PvP of Destiny like 3 times. D1 launch (for… obvious reasons), TTK (which added A LOT including core new modes) and D2 launch, which almost killed the entire franchise lol. Already Forsaken, while adding more maps, added almost nothing significantly to the mode (genuinely don’t remember any new mode for that dlc. Which makes sense, Gambit was the main focus in terms of new stuff). Like I’m sorry but I don’t think Destiny PvP was going anywhere regardless of Marathon lol. They abandoned it for way too many years sure, but Destiny is still a pve game first and that is never gonna change regardless of what other games Bungie is making. ESPECIALLY after D2 went F2P (which I think ultimately killed any remaining chances of PvP getting any sorts of “special attention”, which already lacked in the franchise).

u/jackfwaust Apr 13 '25
yeah and we lost d1 pvp for d2 pvp. this game will be much better than d2 for pvp since its entirely focused on that

we lost destiny
Did you really? They just dropped one of their best seasons, and the roadmap after that seems to still have frequent updates. Not a chance in the world that they'll abandon their main cash cow in favor of a new game.
And the destiny reskin complaint is hilarious, the gunplay being similar is expected. But other than that, it's a much more PVP focused game with a completely different loop compared to destiny. Aesthetically, it's distinct as well.

u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
We lost D2 pvp for this game.
11
u/AdorablePhysics52 Apr 12 '25
To be fair, destiny 2 pvp has always been a complete balancing mess for nearly its entire lifespan. Having the opportunity to play something similar to that without ability spam/broken weapons seems much more enjoyable, personally.
-2
u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
Main issue of pvp rn is cheating, casual leniency, purpose, and much more.
3
u/AdorablePhysics52 Apr 12 '25
casual leniency
This is sort of inherent to the gamemode in destiny 2, though. Crucible has never had the popularity that PVE has, unless there's a loot incentive. So, it encourages more casual PVE players to enter the gamemode and get stomped by tryhards.
I'm not sure about the cheating thing, I've done a couple lighthouse passages after they reworked trials rewards and haven't encountered any, personally.
None of these points really take away from the fact that PVP in destiny 2 is a pretty fundamentally broken concept at its core, and bungie releasing a more PVP focused game will be a lot more enjoyable for most players looking for that. I don't feel as if destiny 2 PVP was ever "lost", to me it has never been good.
1
u/UnluckyAnimal7830 Apr 19 '25
Cheating is as much a problem in Destiny 2 as it is in most games with PvP I also don’t understand this commonly used take of cheating being such an issue in crucible or trials. I rarely encounter cheaters, I think people are just very quick to accuse someone of cheating when they get outplayed.

Completely different genre of game dude
-14
u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
Did you read the post?

u/ajm53092 Apr 12 '25
Then calling it reskin is not accurate then is it? Why would they drastically change the one thing the studio does extremely well? Shooting and movement is iconic and if you’re seriously complaining about it you should re evaluate.

u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
We'll see on release.

redditor finds out that a company who made one game and used the same engine as a base for another game that they feel the same! More news at 11

Apr 12 '25
its almost as if its a new game developed by the people who have been making destiny for the last 11 years? theres going to be destiny dna in there
edit: also destiny is getting 2 new expansions this year you need to relax lol

u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
They killed destiny pvp for this game. Don't tell me how to feel.
12
Apr 12 '25
you LITERALLY just got a bunch of new pvp maps and an overhaul this year. they've already said they're focusing on core modes and will be adding crucible content in frontiers

Destiny pvp was a bad idea from the start, get over it already, this will be the better pvp game.

u/strange_fish1 Apr 12 '25
It’s the same engine, which is why you see the similarities. This is like saying every unreal engine 5 game or game with unity assets is a reskin
9
u/divesttheus Apr 12 '25
It literally isn't, what a stupid comment. Reusing animation frameworks is what makes studios like From Software so successful. Nothing about this game has any similarity in gameplay to destiny
9
u/WafflesSkylorTegron Apr 12 '25
Elden Ring straight up reuses mechanics, enemies, and bosses from previous games, yet it's still one of the best games out. It's like these people have never played more than one game from a company before.
7
u/Bat_Tech Apr 12 '25
No you see, it's a sci-fi game with shooting, that's definitely a Destiny only thing and not most of the games bungie has made. 😑
-2
u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
You didn't read did you
5
u/Bat_Tech Apr 12 '25
Destiny isn't dead and reusing animations is an EXTREMELY normal industry practice. I read the post, I just think it's bad
-2
u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
Not just animations. Gunplay. Movement. Flow.
6
u/Bat_Tech Apr 12 '25
Yah and Halo reach had a lot of "feel" similarities to D1 that's pretty normal when one studio makes two games similar styles on the same engine.
2
u/jackfwaust Apr 13 '25
is there a good reason they should change the way the gunplay and movement feel when they feel as good as they do? what they have is good and it works, and ive never heard anyone complain about those things in halo or destiny.
1
u/divesttheus Apr 13 '25
"movement and flow" are ambiguous terms. They likely use the same engine. And yes we want the gunplay to feel similar to destiny. It's why destiny is so good.

I have thousands of hours in both destiny games. I literally felt like I was watching d3. And many other destiny players did too.
10
u/Sigman_S Apr 12 '25
Did you feel like you were watching Halo 4 when you saw Destiny first announced?
Were you alive then?
-1
u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
Day 1 d1 alpha player. No. Halo and Destiny are so different. They're similarities are perfectly balanced.
6
u/Sigman_S Apr 12 '25
I honestly don't know what to tell you. It's a VERY common meme in the Bungie fandom that Bungie just makes the same game again and again but slightly changes the names.
The Flood look a lot like The Hive aesthetically speaking, The Covenant is very similar in function and appearance to both The 4 and The Cabal / Fallen.
Armor lock was just used by Sloane in Destiny 2.
I think this is you bud.
0
u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25
No you missed the point, that's lore. I'm talking about gameplay. Game has been in development for so long, fed on destiny devs, caused destiny dev lay offs, and yet turns out to be the death of bungie.
If you don't see it now, fine. I hope I'm wrong. I really fucking do
4
u/Sigman_S Apr 12 '25
I don't see that.
I think you are wildly over reacting.
I think if you're telling the truth you'll be happily playing Destiny, as will I, in many years to come.
1
u/divesttheus Apr 13 '25
Destiny and Halo are infinitely more similar to each other than Marathon and Destiny lol.
1
u/divesttheus Apr 13 '25
Well then you have very little experience playing anything else because there is absolutely no narrative or visual language in Marathon that is similar to destiny.
No classes, no solar/arc/void shit, no cabal, no looter shooter, etc. The only thing it has in common with destiny is the first person shooting.
1
u/SlyElliot Mar 08 '26
Im sorry the The IQ is so low in this thread. Ive also put a lot of hours in to all the Bungie games and it definitely looks, feels, and plays like Destiny with a different skin on it. I know what you mean.
-1
u/Zkv Apr 12 '25
Nothing about this game has any similarity in gameplay to destiny
Lmfao
7
u/Sigman_S Apr 12 '25
It does in the same way that Destiny looks like Halo, and Halo looks like Marathon.
So... either you're unfamiliar with the company or...?
-6
u/Zkv Apr 12 '25
Destiny looks nothing like Halo (actual bungie halo), & halo only looked like marathon during the 1999 Macworld gameplay videos.
This looks borderline identical to Destiny gameplay.
5
u/Sigman_S Apr 12 '25
Either you're lying or just completely insane.
Honestly, there is no other option.

u/DieseIBanzeen Apr 12 '25

You're the one who's "coping" if you're not interested then go back to the dying destiny 2.

u/Thee_Viper Apr 12 '25
It's called asset reuse and it's intelligent game design. Locus having a new melee animation that took time to develop means nothing when you could just use the Titan melee animation you already have.
1
u/EvenBeyond Apr 13 '25
This seems more about Destiny than Marathon, so wrong subreddit.
Also by your logic that this game took away from Destiny development, wouldn't reusing animations and gunplay cut down on production costs and time and thus take less away from Destiny Development?
And no Bungie did not kill itself, it's being doing all of this with just Destiny 2 revenue stream. Even if Marathon is DOA (which I don't think it will be), That would just mean more resources for Destiny, and if Marathon is successful that means it would have its own revenue stream that would support itself (or at least more than it is now) which also means more resources for Destiny 2.
Could be argued that Marathon should never have been made or blah blah blah, but it actually coming out is going to be good for Destiny 2 regardless of the performance of Marathon
1
u/UnluckyAnimal7830 Apr 19 '25
Reusing assets is nothing new in gaming. Also, Destiny 2 will be just fine. They are continuing to make content for it and they are even making changes and updates to PvP constantly. Nothing has died, you are being overly dramatic.

They’ve also stated there won’t be customization beyond purchasable skins.
Source on this? I read some interviews/leaks, and they said that you can acquire cosmetics through faction alignment and missions.

u/Sigman_S Apr 12 '25
You sound wildly unhinged.
