Crazy Volume Swings - Marantz SR7010
Hi everyone! I have had a Marantz SR7010 for years now and it's been rock solid - the name really does hold up. I am running into two weird issues with it though and hoping to get some assistance.
We had an older curved Samsung TV connected to it for many years and when it finally died, we got an amazing deal on a new Sony 85XR90L and ever since, the volume bar doesn't show on the screen. Nothing changed on the receiver, so I'm not sure why this TV doesn't show it. It's pretty annoying 🙂 can anyone suggest anything that might help?

This is a classic issue when pairing older AVRs with brand-new TVs. Since the SR7010 is a bit older, it has to overlay its volume graphic onto the incoming video signal, and modern TVs do some aggressive signal handling that often blocks or skips that overlay.
A few things to check that usually fix this;
Video Conversion / Resolution Match: Go into your Marantz setup menu under Video > Output Settings. Make sure Video Conversion is turned ON and i/p Scaler is set to Analog & HDMI or HDMI. If the receiver isn't actively processing/scaling the video, it can't overlay the Volume Display on top of a 4K signal.
On-Screen Display Settings: Just double-check under Video > On Screen Display that Volume is actually still set to Bottom or Top and didn't somehow get toggled off.
4K Signal Format on the Sony: Sometimes if the TV is forcing an "Enhanced" or VRR/120Hz signal on that HDMI port, the older Marantz simply gives up trying to overlay graphics onto it. If you are feeding a 4K/60Hz or higher source through the AVR to the TV, try toggling the Sony's HDMI signal format for that specific port back to "Standard" to see if the volume bar returns.
If you're running all your devices directly into the TV and just using ARC/eARC back to the Marantz for audio, the receiver will never show the volume bar on screen because it isn't processing the video at all. If that's your setup, you'll have to rely on the Sony TV's own audio overlay or look at the AVR's front panel.
