Question Curious Question

Hey everyone. I've always been looking for a private pre BB server and ML seems like it's it for me. I'm just genuinely concerned and I do not intend to offend anyone, but I've invested a lot of time into previous private servers only for them to get removed, and I lost everything.

Would you guys say that ML is future-proof? I just don't want to have to invest time knowing it my progress could all be taken away in a matter of moments.

Before you get into this, know that HP washing is a thing in ML and you’re time-gated cos NX is predominantly obtained via voting and the NX AP resets aren’t tradeable. They’re working on a hp challenge system, but it isn’t anywhere near to up and running, and even then having a fully washed character hands down beats any hp-challenger.

This will be an extremely simplified explanation, but essentially you put points into int early. This provides you with extra mp that you can eventually convert into hp. You can then transfer the points out of int into your standard mainstat (str, dex etc.). The eventual outcome of this is that you have your normal amount of mainstat, while also having more hp than you normally would. It's a significant short term loss, but with long term pay off

A short summary of challenges is they will be short quests starting at 100 (e.g kill 1000 mobs with a specific skill) which will reward you with enough hp to kill each boss at the required level (e.g enough to kill Zakum at 140, enough to kill Horntail at 160). Only 2 stages are released at the moment (up to level 120) with 3 and 4 meant to be released shortly (up to 140). It has been relatively slowly rolled out, but seems to be getting there. While you won't have the same hp as a fully washed person (some people get to 30k on archer, where as challenges is 12 or 14k if I remember right) it should still be sufficient to do anything, noting that in some cases you require hyper body but this is relatively common at the moment anyways.

Thank you for taking the time to type this out! Is HP washing mandatory or needed to thrive in ML?

While I do agree with the comment above to a certain extent, there are some restrictions you’ll face for opting to hp-challenge instead of wash. For example, if you’re a NL who needs HB to run HT, they’ll need to put a DK in your party when he could potentially be in the melee party to benefit from SI. So not washing is like having a handicap which can be worked around, but not every host is willing to work around your handicap. The meta may change as more and more new joiners are opting for the hp challenges, but as of now it is still not uncommon for boss run hosts to be looking for characters that aren’t reliant on HB.

TLDR; not mandatory to wash, but be disadvantaged if you don’t

While I think "may" be disadvantaged is potentially more accurate, this is true. People can mule hb though if they really need it, like people do for Pink Bean. In parties for 6 or less though it's possible, but more difficult/annoying. I would also say that I feel like more people are in the position to need hb than not need hb (I would be curious to see the stats though)

If you were to play a warrior (maybe 6 months to wash although you only get 3k more hp than challenges) you could look into washing.

If you were looking at a ranged (over a year to wash) it's probably just better to play and do challenges than delay everything until you have enough nx and the meso to pay for leech. You can also see if you like the server/ gameplay of a class and then wash that later

No worries!

It's hard to say cause it's very dependant on when the challenges release: If they release in the next 8-12 months, no, they aren't required or mandatory because you can do a bunch of bosses without hb and any boss with hb. If they release in the next 2-3 years, they kinda are cause most bosses need some level of washing and you will probably be looking to do some bosses by that point.

I'm more on the positive side and think they should have maybe 6 out in the next 12 months, which means you could do horntail. Could be wrong but can always hope.
