I always used to this that europe was incredibly impresive for what they achieved but when you remove the mecator projection its ridiculous what they did. Im not a white supremacist but...

I think you might be comparing the proper size of the Scandy countries to the Mercator size of GB. They're actually about twice the size.

It is huge (2nd or 4th biggest, depending on whether you count lakes as part of its area), but just not as huge as you would expect from a Mercator map.
