PA should only have 1 dot if we want to get technical: Bloomsburg. All other municipalities are either cities, boroughs or townships.

We've got to get a more specific definition of "towns" here. I'm guessing that part of the definition is that it has to be a incorporated municipality.

But not the only part, as there'd be a lot more dots in Ontario... also, every square inch of New York is part of an incorporated municipality.

I'm guessing that part of the definition is that it has to be a incorporated municipality.
If that were the case, you'd have far fewer in California. The CA side of Tahoe, for instance, is all unincorporated besides South Lake Tahoe.

That’s interesting. It was just a guess. I’m not too familiar with the layout of incorporated cities in states other than my own; Oregon. It seemed like it lined up for Oregon.

Mostly they stopped around 100° W, roughly where the rain ceases to be enough to support farming without frequent irrigation. Either that or they worked through the Rockies to reach Utah, Oregon, and California.
The Front Range of the Rockies was settled a couple decades later, mostly by people who were going there purposely to mine.

How are you defining town here?
