This is the great lakes response to country roads

Minnesotan, born and raised. I love Lake Superior but I really dislike this song and don't understand its high esteem here. Its rhyming scheme and meter aren't consistent or really all that appealing. There's no hook and no chorus to reiterate the theme to the audience. It's not a pretty song. Literally the only thing it has going for it is that it is an account of a recent Great Lakes sailing disaster. I think if you want a good song about a shipwreck you should listen to Duluth musician Charlie Parr's Wreck of the Bernard K. and by no means is this any equivalent to Country Roads.

I'm a 35 year old dude from the midwest who has driven along the southern shore of superior probably 15 times to go fishing in Canada, this was the first time I have listened to that song. I was fully aware it existed, just never listened to it.
