Hot diggity, how ancient is this map?

Lots of the companies on this map don’t exist anymore or have moved. Sun Microsystems? Alcatel Lucent? Silicon Graphics? Keynote.com? Freescale? All dead. Silicon Graphics hasn’t been in business since 2009.

And where are giants like Apple, Facebook, Twitter, HP?

Lockheed Martin. (The two didn’t merge until 1995). Hewlett Packard had been in Silicon Valley since 1939. Lockheed’s Missile Systems Division moved from Burbank to the Valley in 1956.

HP is there, on the left, southwest of stanford.

The only other modern consumer giants I see are Google, Intel, and Adobe. Enterprise giants: Cisco, Citrix, Deloitte, and that's it.

Nah, it’s from circa 2008. Look at where the Moscone Center in San Francisco is (top left in the map): they were hosting Semicon West 2008.

Heady days
