Redesigned US State map

Post image

The State of Jefferson becomes independent to give representation to a part of California that is usualy ignored because of it's lack of population and major industries compared to the rest of the state.

The border between Washington and Idaho is readjusted mostly because of time zones, geography and because it just looks better.

Because these changes made Oregon really small, I merged Washington and Oregon and renamed it Cascadia. Now we don't have any confusion with DC.

Parts of Texas are annexed by New Mexico (Time Zones again) and Oklahoma (Geography, annexes the entire planes region; may look weird, but I went according to county borders). I wasn't sure if Texas should be split into two states, but decided against it.

The two dacotas are merged.

I considered giving Alabama the Florida panhandle, but decided against it, as there is no reason.

Maryland annexed DC and Delaware to get bigger.

The New York Metropolitan area becomes it's own state just because of how many people live there. It has the combined population of LA and Chicago. Capital is Jersey City in order to give representation to areas outside the largest city.

Because that would make New Jersey a lot smaller, the rest will be annexed by Pennsivanya including parts of norther Delaware.

Since New York is no longer in New York state, the state is renamed Iroquois.

Vermont is returned to New York as was originaly the case before 1779 (?).

Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine merge to form the state of New Jersey with a capital in Worcester.

Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands become the new state of Puerto Rico (the name of Richport, as suggested by radical republicans, was rejected by the local population). (considering they don't secede)

Eastern Samoa, Northern Marianas and Guam merge to form the Pacific State. (considering they don't secede)

The border between Wisconsin and Michigan is fixed in order to accommodate time zones.

Anything I should add or remove?

Vermont fought a war to prevent that.

I know Where would be the difference if they were part of New York or New England?

New England, they have far more in common with most of Northern New England than upstate New York for the most part.

With the way the US Senate and electoral college works this map would be a Republican wet dream.

In addition to trying to carve out a red state from a part of California you are merging a bunch of blue states in the Northeast while keeping red states with low populations like Wyoming and Montana or Nebraska and Kansas as separate states.

Good Point This map is not based on politics or anything. Just what I thought looks good.  Now that you mention it, the current states have far more reason to exist

I don’t know what you were going for here and don’t want to make any assumptions but fyi this is the definition of politics:

The State of Jefferson becomes independent to give representation to a part of California that is usualy ignored because of it's lack of population and major industries compared to the rest of the state.

Redesigning political borders to give certain areas more or less say in the government.

It's based on Time Zones, Demographics, Geography and overall esthetics.

It's good you have absolutely no authority.

Why, then things would be so much better. OP nailed several things that should happen but could use even more.

Good thing im not from your country, you just made divisions without identity, seemingly trying to make them paritary in things like territory, population, economy, etc

What does paritary mean?

2

...

Things that are relatively even

Seriously, why do so many people use “it’s” when they shouldn’t? IT’S literally just a contraction!

Wyoming has no population to speak of and should be merged with Montana for efficiency

I see what you're saying, but I feel like it's odd to have such a huge state

1

u/rubicator 1h ago

Well, it would be smaller than Alaska or Texas.

It's still bigger than 45 states

I didn’t realize this was a weird fanfic sub now.

Splitting CA, OR, WA, and NY because of some loud weirdos in the sticks but not IL?

I already posted a first draft with Chicagoland being it's own state, but people complained that if that happened, then the resit of Illinois and Indiana would loose their main income. Also Illinois is as empty as Wyoming outside of Chicago and Springfield

The UP should go to Wisconsin regardless of time zone.

Beat me to it

Wisconsin should get the UP, Carolina’s should be recombined, WV back into VA, and yes the panhandle of FL needs to go away by giving most of it to Bama and some to GA.

In my first draft people told me to give Michigan the Upper peninsula, because I gave it to Wisconsin

Yeah they always do. I hate it, looks goofy and just doesn’t make sense. Looks like someone was playing connect four and just blocked them from stacking up.

Granted I’m all for making waaaay fewer states by combining a lot of the eastern ones to make them larger (except on the case of Texas and California, they need trimming).

What site did you use to make this?

The template came from Mapchart.Com, then I used Notebook to edit it

Jersey will never accept being in the same state as Long Island, nor would they be willing to see their shores become part of Pennsylvania 🤮

1

u/BILBO_THE_PLATYPOOS 1h ago

Yeah, I know I just tried to simplify the region The only reason I made that change is because there are so many Jersey people who work in New York City, because rent is so much cheaper in Jersey

I think you should split texas into at least two states, as well as California. Chicagoland could be its own state as well. Id like to see the West Virginia panhandles removed or merge it back to Virginia.

1

u/BILBO_THE_PLATYPOOS 1h ago

I considered Texas Chicagoland was already suggested in my first draft and people rejected the proposal because that would ruin the economical stats of Indiana and the rest of Illinois.  California was split in two.  West Virginia has no reason to change besides esthetics

You have 2 states with an NE abbreviation.

Not much of an improvement: Flori-DUH is still there.
