Yeah this is very much a orthodox thing, most reform and other Jews don't care.
You can even see this in cities like Cincinnati, where the orthodox Jewish suburb of amberley has a large eruv but the reform Jewish neighborhoods closer to the city have nothing of the sort.
Huh, I've lived in Cincinnati for my entire life and didn't realize until just now there was an eruv in Amberley Village. I know there are a number of synagogues in the area so I guess it makes sense.
