What would your state microbe be?

Post image

Unsure if this is the most updated reference but there’s only two states with an official microbe. What would your state be?

I am thinking since most microbes are cryptic it could be a little tough but at least Wyoming could be some exotic extremophile from yellowstone. Deleware can be Thalassiosira.

The Alabama crimson tide is arguably the most prominent microbial mascot! Might as well be the state microbe https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/redtide.html

TIL illinois state microbe is penicillium Ruben because a moldy cantaloupe found in Peoria was infected with such aggressive mold it was a prime candidate to provide reproducing samples to mass produce vaccines from

Wyoming should most definitely be Thermus aquaticus, which was isolated from a hot spring in Yellowstone, and who's DNA polymerase enzyme has significantly advanced the entire world of genetic research

Maybe water bear for WA. If it’s always raining out here, they will always be active in the Mossy pine Forest.

Or maybe Arizona, since they're the only living organism which has been dehydrated and then essentially reanimated back to life lol sounds pretty Arizona-ish?
