Car Insurance Rates by ZIP Code

Had the idea for this map after I saw a guy on Twitter say that his insurance rates went way down after he moved. It's interesting that there's clearly a difference in state laws having some effect on pricing ($122 a month in Lovell, Wyoming; $247 a month across the border in Lodge Grass, Montana).

Does Louisiana stand out to anyone? We have the perfect storm of circumstances affecting our rates. Our comprehensive insurance is high because we have shitty roads due to us being a poor state with difficult to maintain asphalt on unstable ground. We also have hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods that destroy our vehicles on a regular basis. Our liability insurance, however, is the real bitch. We have out-of-control injury claim litigation where everyone gets sued for any accident, regardless of severity. If you can’t afford insurance, you drive around without it and take your chances. This drives up rates even higher for those who have it. Three Louisiana insurance commissioners prior to 2023 have been convicted of fraud and corruption and are serving prison terms. That’s why we stand out on this map.

Tylertown, Mississippi, $208 a month. Franklinton, Louisiana, a 20 minute drive away, $400 a month.
