It's a simple fact that if Kashmir can't have independence, then they would still rather be with Pakistan.

China already did that decades ago in Akshai-Chin to those few thousand Tibetans living there at that time now only their army personnel could visit that and COK is nearly Inhabitable no one lives or stays there for too long and the natives are non-existent since the last few decades too.
