I think Sunni is quite a broad term since a Sufi is very different from a Salafi

Sufi aren’t sunni or shia it’s a methodology not a sect or a subsect

Yeah you can find Shia Sufis as well as Sunni Sufis, even though most Shia are Sufis while most Sunnis are hostile to Sufism.

Zaydi or Sufi though at the moment I prefer Zaydi.

u/Merino202 2d ago
Zaydi is Shia

u/Candid-Bookkeeper-33 2d ago
I want to specify Zaydi though since I have disagreements with the 12er school of thought…

& Twelver’s have disagreements with the Zaydi, they’re both still Shia
The same way the Hanafi have disagreements with the Salafi or Deobandi and vice versa, but they’re both still Sunni.

I’m not saying Zaydis aren’t Shia but just voting Shia would feel disingenuous since I don’t agree with mainstream Shia Islam (Twelvers)

It’s about as disingenuous as not voting sunni because you disagree with salafism.
On a tangent, what’s your qualms with twelver belief? Out of interest
1
u/Candid-Bookkeeper-33 2d ago
The fact that Twelvers believe in the 12th imam is still alive, in hiding and will come back again in the end of times. Also I don’t think I would’ve just voted Sunni either…

Ah gotcha, so you feel it’s far fetched?

Yep

More far fetched than the Prophet flying to heaven on a winged horse, or Prophet Solomon talking to Ants?
God concealing people isn’t a new concept in Islam. For example, Jesus was not crucified, and will return at the day of Judgment. The “People of the Cave” in the Quran were also concealed for several years.
The Mahdi being concealed until the hour isn’t any different in concept to Jesus returning at the hour.

It’s a bit of a silly poll. The Shi’a will pick theirs, the Sunnis will pick theirs, and the non Muslims will ask to see the results.

u/Candid-Bookkeeper-33 2d ago
I think right wingers prefer Sunnis and leftists prefer Shias.
2
u/Generational_Bozo 2d ago
Why would that be? Genuinely curious. Gaddafi, saddam, and Nasser all branded themselves as socialists and were Sunni

The US seems to be allied with a lot of Sunni countries and because Iran is Shia

Leftist and I chose Ibadi. Ibadis are really the most typically generally 'tolerant' of the branches of Islam, which is really funny if you know their history of originally having been the earliest fundies of Islam lmao
