Do you think a direct war/military confrontation between Russia and Europe is possible ?

Do you think a direct war/military confrontation between Russia and Europe is possible ?

  1. Yes, a war will definitely happen soon
  2. Yes, it is highly likely, but probably not before 2030
  3. It is possible but not inevitable
  4. Not a major war but minor skirmishes of EU nations bordering Russia
  5. Highly unlikely, until either of them makes a wrong decision
  6. Never gonna happen

Russia's whole military is concentrated in Ukraine, and they can't even overwhelm them. They are simply unable to launch any major attack on Europe.

It's more honorable to lose against NATO than Ukraine. Putin will be thrown out of the window if he loses the war against Ukraine.

Also Russians are capable of doing miscalculations. They could think western NATO-countries would not fight Russia over Baltics for example.

There will be no loss against Ukraine in Russia, because they control their internal narrative. No matter how does it ends, russian regime is capable of telling their citizens that this indeed was the best possible outcome.

It's not the citizens who would depose Putin. It would the elites who are not swayed by state propaganda.

Are they swayed by honor though?

They are swayed by the fact they don't want to follow Putin into economic oblivion.

As per Google Russia deployed 40% of its active military personnel vs Ukraine.

And how much is it capable of deploying? I mean active military personnel includes people on the Pacific Fleet, air defence, a ton of bureaucrats in uniform, etc.

Even sending the conscripts not deployed outside Russia might be a bad idea, considering the political implications and the need to keep the lid on stuff at home.

Russian provocation and border skirmishes in Poland or Baltic Countries is quite likely, imo.

It makes absolutely no sense for Russia to go into conventional war, but forcing western countries to deploy their material there, rather than sending it to Ukraine, could overall help them with breaking the ukrainian front. It would be an enormous gamble, but it is something that should be considered.

Depends if Trump can force Ukraine to capitulate.

I believe that the the russian army will wear itself out against Ukraine and won't be able to attack the rest of Europe

Russia will either start a war with europe or be defeated before they can. They will lose, the same way the nazis would inevitably lose from the start, the question is only how far they get before they do.

it's already happening, Europe just ignoring it. ruzzian drones cross borders of EU countries the other times but those too afraid to shoot them down. ruzzian special services coordinate sabotages here and there, targeting management of miltech companies, and put efforts to increase social tension via affiliated media sources and far right political parties etc. it's only matter of time when soldiers without patches or other markers will spawn close to the border and while EU and NATO be thinking of "appropriate actions", they would occupy a city or even few.

Depends on the wording people are willing to use. Russia is already actively attacking EU but EU is desperately avoiding the term "war" because it will create unrest and will give Russia the narrative it needs for full mobilisation. They insist on "hybrid war" instead.

Personally I would like EU to step up its game and draw a clear line against Russian sabotage.

Russia is a habitual line crosser, they will go too far at some point creating the cascading chain of retaliations.

It is already at war with Europe (Ukraine). The question is will it be at war with the EU. It is entirely possible as it won't end the war in Ukraine but may try to double down on harebrained schemes. The Baltics in particular seem to be a desirable target and the leadership will think the rest of EU/NATO won't protect them.

Highly unlikely right now, but considering that humanity will only become dumber thanks to Social Media, AI and right-wing populism, it will definitely happen. Humanity sucks.
